I fished in the metro and stayed close to home this year for opener! Hit the lake by 11:00 pm in time for some quick scouting and a beer. The weather WAS beautiful until about 12:30 when the skies cleared up and the heavy wind rolled in.

We had all of our luck casting crank baits up shallow and pitching jigs down the edges of those same flats. I caught fish casting husky jerks and jointed floater. I even was lucky enough to get a 19 incher on my first cast.

The sun came up and the tail end of the catching winded down to a standstill. It was awesome to get out and spend some time with good friends! I’m heading back up to the iron range this week so look for my first report as the ice comes off the lakes!

By the time the ice comes off the lake it’ll be time for muskie season
