Not to rant on here but just curious if anyone has any thoughts on what I can do or am I stuck. I bought a brand new 9.9 pro kicker last spring and long story short have been having issues with it kicking into gear when warming up. Long story short it did it again the other day and now I have a constant ticking/rattle I brought it in to be repaired under what I thought would be warranty but now turns out to be my issue. The claim by the dealer and manufacture is that I hit a rock and yet there is no ding in the prop or the skeg they look like new which both have mentioned they are perplexed on how it could have happen. The manufacture is now saying it doesn’t appear to be a manufacture defect thus isn’t under warranty. So am I up a creek without a paddle just a little frustrated with this. Looking for thoughts or should I just let it be and bite the bullet.

Even though you shouldnt have to, I would fight tooth and nail over that if that is all there is to the story.

I think they don’t want to pay for it and want you to turn it into your insurance company. If you did hit something insurance should cover it. Call your insurance agent and get his thoughts. Sounds like a shady dealer to me, sorry you have to go through this.

Try a different authorized repair shop. They can either pull some strings or at the very least, do what’s right.

Go to a different authorized repair shop for that brand. Tell them that the other shop won’t do anything for you and tell them the whole story. They should take it as a instant opportunity to get a new customer and treat you like you are a king. Likely the MFG is just telling you what your service rep told them.

Thanks for all of the advice. Unfortunately I had them fix it right away due to being in a tournament soon. I will call mercury and take pictures myself of the lower unit along with the prop and see what they have to say. The original claim was that I locked up the prop on a rock and caused the gears to strip. The thing I don’t understand and am getting irritated with is the prop and lower unit have no dings which I think is hard to hit something and not ding it. Well see how it turns out but thanks for the advice.
