From Denny McNamara House of Representatives
    Hello from the State Capitol,

As the 2013 session nears completion, I am becoming more and more disappointed with the number of taxes and fees legislative Democrats are choosing to raise on all hardworking taxpayers.

They told us they were going to “tax the rich,” so none of us were all that surprised when they targeted income tax rates on the top one or two percent of wage earners in this state. But then we discovered that people in every tax bracket – including the poor – are subject to income tax hikes. Check out these figures from our non-partisan House research staff: One percent of taxpayers in the 5.35% bracket (those earning $0 – $21,650/year), 61 percent of taxpayers in the 7.05% bracket (those earning $21,650 – $73,500/year), and 82 percent of taxpayers in the 7.85% bracket (those earning $73,500 – $226,000/year) would receive an income tax increase under the House Democrat tax proposal.

The House plan also raises taxes on internet purchases, sports memorabilia, cigarettes and alcohol.

Worst of all, there is no reason to raise taxes on all Minnesotans. The House majority wants $3 billion in permanent increases in order to eliminate a one-time $600 million deficit. I could support some tweaks to eliminate our budget shortfall, but this is going too far. We are a border community. Why would we want to give neighboring restaurants, liquor stores, and convenience stores an advantage over local businesses? These bills just give our residents more incentive to shop in Wisconsin.

Fee increases are also flying under the radar. Plans have already been passed that would ultimately raise the costs of many items – including city water, batteries, paint, and carpet. Our research team has said that fee increases alone will bring in hundreds of millions more to the state. All of them will be paid for by all Minnesotans, not just the rich.

Many of these proposals are currently being debated in House/Senate conference committees, where a small group of representatives and senators will craft a compromise bill that can be passed in both bodies. But based on what I’ve seen, this Democratic-led legislature will not end session by taxing only the rich. They will permanently raise taxes and fees on every Minnesotan; but for now their task is to agree on how much more they want you to pay.

    Keep in touch,

    Denny

Don’t worry.. The dems will keep 50 or so % of the MN population happy by giving plenty of handouts to them all on the backs of the middle class.. so I am sure they will be staying in office for quite some time until people wake up. Tough to beat Santa Clause.

Just keep in mind the Republicans will be making the exact same promises during the next election. A whore is a whore, regardless of party affiliation.

“They” are the ones who fool the right and left into bickering while “they” rob us all blind. It’s not about Republicans vs. Democrats like we have been led to believe.

What I liked about this…. was the press conference scheduled to address this issue and announce that there is a plan to fix this. A “secret” plan….. that we can’t tell you right now, but you’re gonna love it!

That’s like making you guess which hand is holding the remote control to the trap door below your feet!

Racino would help with the “shortfall”. I cant understand why we wouldn’t build a casino/hotel and attach it to the new Vikes stadium. Makes no sense.

Then late Friday, the MN SENATE revived a GAS TAX BILL. Passed it to raise GAS TAX $0.05 over next 4 years and add a SALES TAX to Metro area to pay for TRANSIT, over-riding Scott & Carver Counties choice to opt out due to lack of benefits.

    I am mad now.

Tax the Rich, yea right Gov.DAYTON.

THESE TAXES will hit every Minnesotan and everyone purchasing fuel in Minnesota to get to work and filling your boat.

Were in the middle income group (less than $100k) & i’m looking now that TAX BILL TOTAL will rise by over $1,000. Yes, we spend our income on living so gas & sales taxes along with income TAX INCREASES will take away what we can purchase. This reducing my “Net Income” will reduce what I and thousands of others spend, this reducing total increased TAX REVENUE.

Then there are the many FEE (Hidden TAX) INCREASES to further reduce my purchasing power.

So, YES I am at the Democrats & Liberals disguised as Conservative Republicans.

    Just my two-cents

I have an idea which make’s about as much sense as anything else I’ve seen here! Take 3 envelope’s and put a tea bag in each one. If you felt like it you could include a terse note reminding them that they work for US! Send one to Obama and one each to our 2 Senator’s! DIRTBALL2

Wow, you MN people sure hate paying gas / hyway tax…didn’t you have a bridge collapse a few years ago? How did that work for you? Me thinks it takes money to not just build them, but also to maintain them.

More tax money won’t result in better roads and bridges with the way our state is awarding contracts.

MN DOT recently decided to NOT award the lowest bidder on a project, which by the way also had the HIGHEST technical score, instead opting to spend an additional 6 MILLION dollars to a competing bidder with a LOWER technical score because the second company had a “better” plan for utilizing minority owned subcontractors.

Yep, they decided to spend $6 million EXTRA dollars on a company that will produce a lower quality product.

And we should give them more money?

That really defies all logic and reasoning

Arguing with a liberal over how to manage money is like banging your head against a brick wall

There are a lot of people on this site that bash democrats for just about everything. I think we all need to realize that all politicians, regardless of party, lie about just about everything. I could come up with an incredibly long list of lies the republican party has told in the last few years, and somebody else could make up with a list just as long with democrat lies. I’m of the opinion that we, the people, should not argue about who is right or wrong when it comes to politics because obviously there isn’t a politician in either party worth voting for. They are all crooks

    +1

That was my point. Everyone is so brainwashed and distracted they are missing the real problem. And the senators just keep voting themselves raises, better pensions while we beat each others brain out. Wake up, folks!
