Is there anywhere to look for a boat value list. A blue book? Also Free. I’ve been looking at boats, but what are they worth. Info is hard to come by.

NADA is always high on their blue book values but its a place to start. You are more likely to find a value by doing a search of similar boats in your area and compare prices that way.
May 9, 2013 at 3:51 pm #1169614I have owned 1 myself and had 2 for family boats when I was a child. What do you want to know??
I dont believe there is a book value on boats. The only thing I’d say is don’t believe the bank value or MOST insurance values on boats! When I got a loan for my crestliner they told me it was worth $4500. I said tell me where I can get that deal and I’ll take2!!
May 9, 2013 at 3:57 pm #1169619The short answer is “no”. NADA is a tool for lenders so that they don’t get burned too badly when a loan goes bad.
In the real world, prices vary wildly by location, condition, and season.
Reply with a description of the boat and (very important) the oveall condition and I can estimate it for you. Keep in mind, this is absolute Prime Time for selling.

You’ll get the whole range of opinions on what it’s worth (from lowball to premium) in no time.May 9, 2013 at 4:06 pm #1169624Quote:

BINGO. It’s worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Post here and you will have a pretty good idea.
May 9, 2013 at 4:49 pm #1169644Sylvan are a very good moderately priced boat. Some people would call them entry level boats. They sit high on the water, so if you have a console with a walk thru windshield expect to get blown around with the wind. Check the motor carefully and watch the max horsepower rating. Like Tracker the Sylvans are often paired with smaller motors to keep the cost down, but then the performance suffers also.
Don’t be afraid of the boat, check it out and if you like it go for it.
May 9, 2013 at 5:09 pm #1169653Thanks Guys.
It’s an older Sylvan Sea Master, 70 hp Yamaha, power tilt, side console/no windshield, 4 pedistal seats, live well, Shorelander trailer – manufactor date on trailer is 78?. It’s had 2 small holes patched on the side of the boat, total condition of boat is fair. Comes with cover, trolling motor, 4 life jackets. anchors, 2 landing nets, fish locator, marine radio. Please put a price on what you might offer. Thanks againdesperadoPosts: 3010May 9, 2013 at 5:21 pm #1169661Quote:

I agree that’s about what it’s worth; but if you get some high value guy to buy it (or to sell it for you), I’m sure you could get more than that.
May 9, 2013 at 5:55 pm #1169673I’d say 1500$ max. I had an 88 sylvan back troller and I bought it for 2k and sold it for $2200. Had 45 hp tiller with trolling motor and depth finder. Just an opinion
May 9, 2013 at 6:13 pm #1169680Be very careful to check the transom for rot and stress damage. A lot of neglected Sylvans went to their graves because of this issue.
$1500 would be a reasonable price, get it around that number if you can. There are several oddball factors here. Yamaha wasn’t in the US outboard market in 78, so I have to assume that this rig is pieced together.
Seeing as it’s Prime Time, $2000+ is likely going to be the street price right now in the Twin Cities area. Further from a metro area will give you more leverage on price.
