So if people can’t see the ZM’s, will I get a ticket?
Last summer I launched at a Carver county park and did not pay the $5. The ticket cost me $131.50 Next time I will have a pen!!! (never going back) So what is next?bigpikePosts: 6259May 7, 2013 at 7:27 pm #1169100Did you ever watch the greatest movie ever made – Cool hand Luke? Well if you haven”t: Luke escapes prison and has shackles on his ankles, he comes across a couple kids playing and gets an axe from them to lose the shackles, then he has one of the kids get cayenne pepper from his mom and sprinkles it across his scent track. Well sure enough the hounds come thru and its game over. Moral of the story – keep a pile of cayenne pepper in your boat for such special moments
May 7, 2013 at 7:36 pm #1169101I guess we will need to start taking our tigers fishing and see what happens.
May 7, 2013 at 8:11 pm #1169112What do they do when they detect the invasive little buggers…lift their leg and wash them down…if they smell stink bait in BK’s boat they might either drop a load or roll in it.

Fantastic a Life of Pi reference. Good one!
My question is whether it is just adult mussels or also veligers? And since veligers don’t appear in the water column until late summer, they would currently be sniffing boats that have sat all winter in sub zero temps. With a shortage of Co’s, now they take three more to handle the dogs. I wonder what the cost is for three CO’s, training, benefits, salary, equipment? $500,000.00
May 7, 2013 at 9:25 pm #1169126My luck would have it that “Hooch” would be on the watch when I leave the ramp.
In the following minutes my upholstery is ripped to shreds and everything else worth salvaging in the boat will have so much saliva slime on it from the choppers’ from that dang dog!
Remember “Turner and Hooch”, Tom Hanks?
May 7, 2013 at 10:56 pm #1169139I saw the story and they are trained to sit when they catch the scent. Also, I believe they will just be walking around the boat, not jumping in.
I give them crap about AIS as much as anyone, but here’s a shocker, I don’t mind this idea.
I say that with caution. Hopefully it does not lead to tickets or something crazy like a confiscation and quarantine.
To me it seems like a cheaper and more effective solution to slowing the spread of zeebs. Certainly more than kids at the launch doing it for a summer job.
The big problem is that there are only 2, which will do nothing.

May 8, 2013 at 2:22 am #1169197We’re on the same page Puggy. Scary huh?
The only way they could go in your boat or car or home the same way an officer could search.
Buzz? What’s $500,000.00 compared to a summer of chasing ghosts on the St Croix for at least two biologist?
It’s been too quiet on the Carp front since the COE came out with the statement the EDNA testing was a joke. It’s about time it raised it’s ugly head again.

Whats the big deal if a dog sniffs your boat? I’m missin’ it…If it happened to find a zeb that would be a good thing right?
i got a dog that loves to find ducks… their infested with invasives will she work… what an effin joke, how many zebra mussels can be contained in one gallon of water…not sure but you odds are that youd pay less for a controlled substance….
May 8, 2013 at 8:13 pm #1169379Pug I agree with you.
I have always taken my plug out of my boat upon leaving the lake. I was taught that way, 58years now. De weeding and de anything else that I can find has always been my way.
The only change for me is not being able to keep my live wells full with areator running for bait and fish that will be going to the operating table and going under the knife. Minor change for me.
Hoping it is all for the better in the long run.
