A question for Resort Users, and Resort Owners

Just out of curiosity how will you deal with having reservations/cancelations, if the lake you are on is still ice covered.

We just canceled our reservation on Winni this morning. The owner allowed us to keep our spot for next year, without loss of any money. I think they know there is really nothing to do up there is the lake is frozen.

We contacted our guests the week prior to the opener in Wisconsin and told them that the ice would not be off of the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage. We gave them the option of a full refund or booking a different week with us.

I would assume that is the most resonable solution, We have reservations very close to Winni where the owers are insisting the lake will be open.

Which is all well and good,on the other hand I would hate to head up there and find it still iced up.

It can’t be good for business to over promise! I suspect they know what they are talking about. Although,I suspect that it would be unnerving relying on a their word with a long drive like that.

Dayton should consider Nothern Minnesota a Disaster Area so that Federal and State Funds are available for all resort owners – while they wait for the ice to melt.

Here in the U.P. most larger deeper lakes are still ice covered, but 3-4 days in the 70s and rain coming Thurs will really help.
My scheduled guide trips will start on May 28 (hopefully)

I pay a seasonal rate, so the resort I go to gets paid either way. The bar might lose some business from our crew though. We are heading West to find open water and catch some Walleyes.

I was thinking the bars would do better than normal since guys will still go places but not fish much or at all.

This weather has a major economic impact, bait stores, little ma & pa stores. It’s wide spread and hundreds of thousands of people not fishing. The money’s gone forever, they don’t add a 53rd week to the year.

Lets not forget everybody also reaped the reward of a really warm spring last year. While the opener didn’t change I think more guys were fired up to get out due to the warmer weather.
