Update from JAKES mom he has been in surgery and for 2 1/2 hours. It is going slower than planned, but he is stable.
May 5, 2013 at 3:52 pm #1168458Tough for them to get through all that muscle he’s built up from hauling in big fish.
Prayers continue until Jakob is safe and recovered.

Dear God in Jesus name we pray, we lift up our brother Jakob in surgery today and for a successful operation.

Jakes surgery is finally complete. It took quite a while due to the intricate dissecting out of the veins, arteries and nerves in order to find the rib to remove. Post operatively he has a drain in his chest as well as fluids, and a Pain pump. Ironically they use the same pumps from my company. It’s interesting to watch the staff use them on my son. They needed to increase his PCA dose due to pain. His saturations for oxygen drop when he starts to fall asleep so he may need oxygen during sleep. They will be starting the Heparin again at 9pm. Continued prayers are appreciated. We thank everyone for all of your support and caring words.

Prayers sent.
JackMay 10, 2013 at 9:00 pm #1170022Finally back home!!
Wow what an awesome group of guys on here, I can’t explain how much your words helped me through this terrifying time.
I arrived home yesterday around 3pm and found myself walking straight up to my bed and sleeping for the next 20 hours straight. It’s great to be home, but the battle is still not over.
I underwent major surgery removing my upper rib on the right side of my body, it was a 4 hour surgery and something I would like to never do again. With the surgery they had to move every muscle, vein, and nerve around so they could access my rib and I am still feeling the effects of it.
I am doing physical therapy at home and am still feeling numbness in my right arm and fingers, but I have been told that will go away with time.
I was very lucky that we caught this when we did – it was a 7″ blood clot that was created from my rib pressing on my vein and stopping the flow to my extremities – we thought it was a pinched nerve – but thought I should get it check out anyway.
Here is a picture of what my chest looked like before the clot was removed:
Just scares me again looking at it.
I will be on blood thinners for the next 6 months and laying low for the next couple of weeks until my pain subsides.
Thanks again for all the prayers and kind words throughout this whole ordeal and I hope to see some of you on the water soon!!
