May 2, 2013 at 6:21 pm #1167751Hey guys, thanks for all the support, this has been a very rough time for me.
As of right now the plan is to do thrombolysis and tpa and a possible veno plasty.
In layman’s terms, they are shoving a wire up my vien and are going to shoot medicine directly into the clot., which should deteriorate the clot. If for any reason there is scar tissue inside the vein, they will be putting a cathider up my vein with a balloon to ope the up the vein more. This could take multiple hours because of the sheer size of the clot. I will be admitted to the icu directly after the procedure.
Thanks again for all the prayers and please keep praying for this procedure to run smoothly.

May 3, 2013 at 1:49 pm #1167983Prayers sent. I lost a good friend this winter to a clot. He was traveling out to his shanty when it hit his heart. My prayers are extended to the family and friends.
May 3, 2013 at 5:44 pm #1168098This afternoon’s update:
Clot is dissolved!
Now they’re looking for the reason it was there in the first place.
Jakob is in…I would say HIGH spirits by the looks of his last txt message.
Good news! The boat’s awaiting!

Pug, you should be in the clear considering your ice fishing luck.
May 3, 2013 at 11:55 pm #1168188Ok another [censored] update.
We have found the root of the problem. My upper rib has been pushing on my vein to create the clot and now I have two options.
Surgery to take out the upper rib so that it can not create pressure on the vein, which involves making an incision into my neck/shoulder then fishing their way down to my rib and cut it out.
Second option is just to leave it and hope it doesn’t ever happened again.
There are major complications in either direction and a huge decision I am going to need to make very soon.
Just when you think it gets better, it gets worse…

Jake has decided to have the surgery. It will be done by the vascular surgeon at 09:00am Sunday morning. The surgery will take 2-3 hours and recovery will take 2-4 days, then physical therapy.Jake took his first walk in the halls today, but became dizzy half way. It was probably due to the IV narcotics as well as first time being up. We will take it slower next time. He will continue on Heparin up until surgery, then restart it after and eventually change over to Coumadin for an extended time. He continues on every 6 hours blood draws. He has become a pin cushion, especially since they cannot use his right arm. I am not sure where they will find a place for this next IV they are doing today. More later…

May 5, 2013 at 1:23 pm #1168433Written 22 minutes ago Jake went into surgery at 9:15. The surgeon said it will take about 3 hours. He will have a drain in his chest and a pain pump. He will be admitted to ICU again. Prayers appreciated .
