In some parts of the United States, May Baskets are made. These are small baskets usually filled with flowers or treats and left at someone’s doorstep. The giver rings the bell and runs away. The person receiving the basket tries to catch the fleeing giver. If they catch the person, a kiss is exchanged

Most years all I have on my door step is a burning brown paper bag.

    Either way…Happy May Day all!

You can go put a basket on RRR’s stoop and if he catches you… Oh dear god.

If April showers bring May flowers, what does May snow showers bring? Anger?

I was remembering that tradition this morning. Haven’t heard of it for quite some time, but we used to celebrate it as kids.

As kid’s we also participated in the May Day activities. We had a couple very cute girls that lived across the street so naturally that’s where I went. I know you were supposed to run but with the cute girls it was more like a slow jog.

It is interesting that May Day in Europe was taken over as a day of protest for labor causes. Since “labor causes” is, in many countries, a code word for policies favored by various stripes of socialist and communist parties, the day was quickly taken over as a parade day by the Soviet Union.

So when anyone says May Day, I think of a lot of people marching in the streets carrying signs and wearing red.

Have you ever caught the giver and gave them a kiss?

We still do baskets for the kids. Girls or not …we drop basket, ding bell, and ditch out. Lucky enough to live on a dead end street in small town USA. Usually our bell rings a few times too. Rekindle some fun and give your best neighbors a treat today. If anyone wants to leave a basket for me i prefer a large tumbler filled with ice, bourbon, and coke.

Communist holidays typically don’t do well here in the USA?

I could never get the Girls to chase me,
It was either the Father, the older brother,or the dog.

I went to our Nursing Home today to help volunteer with Bingo.
After we were done some of the nurses came with May Baskets they made filled with all kinds of candy goodies.
Was a nice surprise. And they were very fancy baskets homemade.

I would be happy to give you a may day basket BK.. but only because I am fairly certain I can outrun you. But if not I will have my “secret” weapon. I will drop a tub of secret 7 as a diversionary tactic in hopes I can flee when you stop to pick it up.

if someone else drops a tub of secret 7 as diversionary tactic. . . you might wanna think twice about if you should to pick it up
