Simple Green

After last fall my Lund had a lot of “old man river” stuck on the hull and it was starting to look pretty rough. I started looking around on line and saw that there were a lot of products specifically marketed for cleaning boat hulls. I also noticed that they were about as expensive as a good 5th of Whisky. Last weekend was wandering around the automotive section of a department store and came across this stuff called Simple Green. The claims on the label sounded a lot like the boat hull cleaner stuff….biodegradable, non-alkaline, etc. They wanted $4.00 for a big spray bottle so what the heck.

I sprayed it on and let it soak for a few minutes, and I’m happy to report that the scum wiped off with a paper towel! Now I’m sure there’s more expensive stuff that would work better, shine up the aluminum, etc. but for the price this worked pretty darned good.

We soaked hermeticly sealed circuit cards 24 hours in simple green to loosen all the scum from fans and then wipe & rinse it away when I was in the Navy back in the 80s. Good safe stuff.

Is this like the ‘Mean Green’ stuff you can buy to wash siding and stuff? Same company?

I love the stuff! Use it on everything. Works great on carpet too.

When I was in the Marine Corps, we used simple green for the cleaning of virtually verything. It sure made one heck of a wax stripper- we would pour it on srtraight and the floor wax would soften and lift off almost instantly.
I recently convinced the guys at the shop how well it works for cleaning off melted poly from machine parts and it seems like it is used more often now then the old solvent parts cleaner.

I’ve attested to it’s ability to (deoxidize, descum, de,,,,) the surface then wax with ease.

I think some folks never listen to what others say.

It’s great stuff. The important thing to remember is that it will strip the wax, so if you use it on a car, truck, boat, etc, you’ll need to reapply wax!

I have sold and used it since it came out. It has many uses and I have not found to much it wont clean up.
Some time ago we were doing a very large cleaning project and diluted it some with water in an old gallon milk jug so we had more when needed. It sat on the kitchen counter while we used it, my wifes brother walks in ,thinks its lemon lime coolaid and takes a big gulp, the look on his face was priceless .I know he wont take a drink of anything
anymore with out smelling it or asking if its ok to drink first.
