    20 inches of ice near shore means nothing out in the middle of the lake!

    at almost exactly the same time on the same day, I was drving the amphibious-self-propelled-ice-shack on Big Eau Pleine (just 50 miles straight south of the lake these guys were on)

    There is NO WAY any NON-AMPHIBIOUS vehicle should be out there.

    there was a foot of ice out in the middle of Eau Pleine, but there was 70 to 80 yds of open water between shore and the ice sheet

    we could travel on the ice sheet if we kept moving
    but it was so rotten that if we stopped, then the chunk of ice we were on would separate from the rest of the sheet and start to sink under our weight

    What were you doing on the Eau Plaine? Word is the winter kill on it this year was far worse than the one 5 or so years ago.

    Wasn’t fishing … I was demonstrating the amphibious vehicle to a dealer in the area. The rotten ice on the Eau Pleine was perfect to showcase the machine’s capabilities.

    The people that fish that lake are crazy, I was there early ice and walked out on 8 inches near shore and there were people driving small cars across the channel no less!! I’m sure these guys probably went through crossing the channel. I’m a cheesehead as well and know first hand the idiots that ice fish northern and central WI, some people just don’t think.

    Those guys are bullhead ninjas. They’ll sneak up here, fill their trunk with bullheads, and sneak back across the border completely undetected (other than the smell).
