Looking for a reel that will balance well on a Legend Elite 6’8″ M XF. This is a Walleye jigging setup that I’ll be putting 6lb and 8lb mono on. The reels that I’ve tried on it make the rod tip heavy. I do not want to add weight to the butt.

If money is no object the Shimano Stradic Ci4 is perfect on that rod and will last forever.

The 1000 will pair better with that rod than the 2500, in my opinion.

I tried on every reel in store for an avid of mine sometime ago and had same issues. I ended up just going with a really small 400i cardinal can only get about 75yds of 10# 832 on but it works for the applications I use it for. Something to look at if you don’t want to spend $200 on a superlight expensive reel.

1000 agreed. Stradic or a Ci4, you want a good reel in the smaller size drags are much better.

$150 range – Pfleuger Supreme XT or Quantum Smoke

$200 range – CI4 (what I would buy), Quantum EXO, or Pfleuger Patriarch

I may be the only one, but if I am pitching jigs, I like the 2500 size over the 1000.

I agree with the 2500 size, and a slightly heavier reel will probably offset the “tip heavy” feeling that you’ve had from other reels on that rod. A CI4 should be nice, or for a less expensive reel maybe try the Pflueger Arbor. Different reels have a different “balance point” so try several brands to see what you like best.

x3. I have the 2500 on my 6’8″ and 6’9″ and it’s doesn’t feel bad to me, I have the 1000 on the 6’3″ Extreme that I vertical jig with and I like it on that. When pitching jigs, I find the 2500 picks up line quicker, and that’s why I use it. My 2 cents.

I’ve got the new Shimano Sahara 1000 model on my St. Croix Avid, it’s an awesome combo!

Quantum EXO 15 or Smoke 15. I tried the Ci4 but I didn’t care for the handle. Liking the Quantum reels much more.

    A ci4 2500 weighs a mere 7.4 oz
For those that pitch mono or florocarbon line in cold weather , you will quickly recognize the value of the larger spool diameter for line memory and casting distance.

I like the larger size reels for less memory and I get more distance casting light jigs. My .02.

Should be the opposite with the light jigs. Smaller the spool dia the easier and farther jigs fly. But I guess if you are using a stiff line I could see a bigger spool casting farther due to less curls in the line.

Zebco trigger spin, probably caught more fish than all others combined.
