I have 10,200 miles on my 2012. Drove to Rainy River yesterday. Filled in bemidji on my return home filled again at the same station. I did the math and I had 20.2 miles per gallon and the the truck read the same. Was happy I didnt pull a boat and I used 88 octane.

    Yeah awesome truck for mileage.

Have seen as high as 22-24 mpg on longer trips. Summer months seem to be way better.

Just drove my 04 F150 5.4L home from SoDak yesterday and got 19mpg according to the computer.

Yeah Bob, I have the same 2012 Supercrew with EcoBoost and that’s what mine gets now too with 5,000 miles. Drove to LOW in Jan and a buddy of mine took his 5.4 and we put $100 more gas in his during the round trip. Plenty of power for pulling my rig also. Glad I made that decision.

Not trying to stir anything up, just want straight up opinions / experience. The thread title left it open ; ) I get the non-towing gas mileage advantages of the ECO Boost F150s.

But, what’s the long-term reliability of them, esp. one’s that pull boats regularily? I don’t personally know anyone with more than 60K on one.

I test drove one and regretted it. Absolutely impressed and heard many good reviews from neighbors. I’m a Chevy guy, and have a tough time switching from the 5.3 Vortec to the Ecoboost that’s only been in the F150’s for a couple / few years. I’ve had 3 Vortecs over last 15 years…..never had a repair bill on any of them.
I’m curious to see how the turbo’s that spin at 60K RPM’s hold out over the long haul and the overall engine life. Then there’s the condensation “shudder” / “shutdown” issues. Had another neighbor that had his “crippled” by this….”oxygen senson” was what he was told…Not sure if that issue had a sure fix yet or not.
Not knocking the Ecoboost…very impressed actually…..but that’s was a test drive…..just not sure if I want to roll the dice on something I’ll put 150K+ on….not afraid of doing that with a Vortec.

It pulled a car hauler better then the GMC Serria that I used. Better power 17 mpg on a 4 hour trip. 8500lbs it was pretty amazing.

Turbo’s have been around a long time. The ecoboost is a tested motor it has been out for a lot longer then people think. Kinda like a 5.3 vortec. Great motor, proven design.

Time will only tell, I have seen a few eco getting up to 120k-150k with little to no issues.

I have a 2011 Screw Eco-boost with 58k. Not a hiccup in power at the 58K, only thing done on truck is new tires and oil change every 3k. I purchase the extended warranty to 100k thinking this exact same thought….hopefully I don’t have to use the warranty. This is a great truck, for pulling, driving, and the back seat is huge for hauling guys on a fishing trip.

I think this is the first time turbo’s have been in a 6 cylinder gas engine in a pick-up though. Eco-boost and turbos have been around long enough, agreed. But I believe 2013 will only be the 3rd year for the F150’s. Correct me if I’m wrong. Would be surprised if many F150’s upwards of 120K were around.

Again, F150…awesome truck! Pulling, acceleration, gas mileage…all better than my Vortec…very impressed….but if I bought a new 1/2 ton for everyday and pulling boat 30-40 times a year, which will still be standing at 150K, and at what expense?? Don’t expect an answer…opinions / experiences welcome.

I’m in the same boat as you Mike. I’ve had both Chev’s and Fords over the years and have had good luck with both. But…….I’ve currently got a Chev with the 4.8 V8 and just turned 200,000 miles. I’ve had only VERY minor repairs to make, so I’m thoroughly happy with the truck. I’m contemplating a new just just because it seems like it’s time I guess. The Ford Eco-Boost is on the top of the short list, but it’s really hard to turn away from the Chev reliability I’ve gotten on this last truck. It’s impossible to cover all your bases, but I keep wondering if I can expect 200,000 trouble free miles out of the Eco-Boost like I’m currently riding on the Chev.

They only complaint I have with the current truck is rust. It’s ten years old and the rockers are completely shot. There’s getting to be pretty extensive rust bubbles over the rear wheels as well. I know these trucks won’t last forever in the North Land, but it seems like the Ford’s have been holding off rust a little better.

    Decisions……Decisions……

Cals the reason I got mine last year. I am approaching the 20k mark in just under a year.

Not many with high mileage yet so time will tell. I have only see a few I assume dealer samples with that high of miles. So Mike you are correct to think that. Also I did opt for the warranty too. Cannot hurt turbo’s are expensive to replace and I worried about that myself. I guess only time will tell.

I agree with both there is not the track record like a chevy 5.3 Vortec. It is tough to beat that long of a dependable record.

Another thing I must add that swayed my decision is the locking diff’s. True 4 wheel drive is very nice on the ice. I upgrade to the Offroad package too to get 3.73 gears.

    Just my two cents.

I doubted it for a while, and then bought a Eco, no turning back and a very happy driver.
