Couldn’t help but keep an eye on the Wild. Suter & Parise are something to watch but hockey is a team sport. 2 guys alone ain’t going to do sheet in the 28 game lord stanley marathon. war and i’m not convinced they are suited for battle. not this year. stoner needs to move to colorado and live up to his name. what a huge mistake taking up ice time.
April 24, 2013 at 11:32 pm #1165677All you need is a hot goalie in playoffs, just look at 8th seeded Kings who won cup last year, and many teams in past with the hot goalie.
Backstrom is past his prime, will get chewed up in playoffs.
But, I am hoping for a good showing from the team.April 25, 2013 at 12:06 am #1165685Quote:

I agree, Backs seems to have lost confidence or something. His game has gone down hill recently.
Im still not a 100% on Yeo either.April 25, 2013 at 12:13 am #1165686Yeo is fine, Backstrom is fine. I’ve been waiting to see how Backs would perform in the post season. He was a rock in the Finish league in the post season. Oh, I know, it was a while ago and that is Europe. Still Backs has proven to be a big competitor when it is on the line. It will be interesting.
Don’t forget, he’s in the last year of his contract.
April 25, 2013 at 12:22 am #1165683My thoughts in typical MN sports fashion they will sneak into the playoffs and lose in the first round. However they have been fun to watch this season and hope for the best.
PB2Posts: 329April 25, 2013 at 2:59 pm #116579325 people voting that we choke? You guys do realize the Wings would have to win their last 3 games of the season, Columbus their last 2 and we would have to lose both of our games in regulation no less for the Wild not to make the playoffs.
No Viking jokes please!

Well I am bound by my curse to vote that way

Unless you have a hot goalie that combines a 1.05 GAA with scoring at least 2 goals a game, then you’re going to need more than a hot goalie. My understanding is that it is somewhat hard to find goalies who score more than 10-12 goals per season.
It certainly helps to have a hot goalie, but you can’t win a playoff series with 0-0 ties.
The Harding situation has made life extra tough on Backs during this short season. Nothing you can do about that.

Ummm, well of course scoring is needed to win, but what I’m saying is that the team with a hot goalie usually ends up in the big dance or wins the whole thing.
Case in point, ’95 Devils, Brodeur was on fire for a mediocre team, LeMaire’s trap defence had a part in that also, but the team basically rode Brodeur’s coat-tails in that series. Brodeur had a 1.67 GAA in those playoffs.
Backstrom is just not the goalie he was few years ago, takes him forever to get his pad over to stop weak side shots, teams also been picking his shoulders for goals latley too.
Blackhawks are equiped to win this year, lots of scoring and give up very few goals, but I am a Wild fan and hope they go far.
PB2Posts: 329April 26, 2013 at 3:58 pm #1166092That couldn’t have gone any worse last night. Detroit and Columbus both win.
So we can still finish as High as 6th or as low as 9th ..Pug!
cabela10Posts: 38April 27, 2013 at 3:14 am #1166195I agree with Stoner. The guy can’t play. He can’t make a tape to tape pass out of his own zone. Everything is high off the glass and out of the zone. He was good just the last season or two. I also don’t think Koivu should be playing with Parise. Top line should be Parise, Zucker and Pominville if he comes back. Brodziak and Clutterbuck are worthless. Clutterback hits a player 2 seconds after they made a perfect pass to a teammate, yet everyone at Excel cheers for that garbage, I don’t get it, never will, I hated clutterbuck for the past 4 seasons, hated when we resigned up.

So, you want to separate the Wild’s all-time best assist man from their best scorer? Not a chance. Koivu has easily been one of the best assist men in the entire NHL his whole career.
