A gentle parking reminder

Over lunch break as I was walking to my car to move it to a closer parking space I noticed countless cars with orange ‘reminders’ on their windshields–a sign the city wants some additional income. It struck me as odd to see all of these tickets because usually they are reserved for vehicles with past-due parking meters. But as I approached my car I noticed a reminder on my windshield too. Turns out I forgot to affix the tabs I paid for last January and got slapped with a gentle $37 reminder. I know, my mistake. I had remembered to put new tabs on my truck but not my car…damnit.

Anyway, this is a warning that Rochester’s parking control is keeping busy by policing your vehicle registration now so save yourself some frustration if you forgot your tabs.

Nice… maybe collecting funds for the new stadium MN is getting? Sucks popping $40 and getting nothing for it. Gotta love how our own government treats us.

If it was not enforced no one would buy them. I guess I don’t see the problem. Granted there are “bigger fish to fry” .

I have clipped them to my visor when bought in Jan and forgot to apply them when I get the plate cleaned up but have not been pinched for it.

Did they issue a failure to display or was it for expired tabs? If you purchased the tabs but didn’t display them and they issued you a expired tab ticket then I would dispute the ticket. Call the DA and tell him that you purchased before they expired and it should be thrown out.

Maybe there is someone that knows the law better then me but tabs might be a moving violation? The last thing you need to do is give them more money so they can blow it on more crap to ‘help protect us’

Yes you were wrong by not displaying them but you were lawful by purchasing them right?

Were you parked on public or private property?

Its the law, have to have up to date tags ON YOUR VEHICLE 30 days past the expiration date. You forgot to put them on, your mistake.. now you have to pay for it. We all make mistakes and have to pay for them, that is life. As you saw, you are not the only one that forgot and you will not be the last. Trying to fight it will do nothing. Just pay the $40 and remember to put them on next time. Lesson learned.

Man that city sucks. I do not miss it one bit.

Yeah, with Mother Mayo holding MN State and Olmstead Residents hostage for 500 million, you can expect that stuff to get 100 times worse.

You’re stating the obvious. I didn’t say I wanted to fight it. I did say I was frustrated but that it was my mistake. I was simply giving a heads-up. Thanks dad

The reason I asked is if you were parked on private property, you would have a good case for dismissal. Private as defined as owned by your employer, not for customers. Or a pay lot, ect. Police cannot ticket that violation on private property. It would be no different than ticketing your project car in your back yard with tabs from 1972.

Thanks for the reminder Chris I forgot to get the tabs for my daughter’s car, she noticed it a month later and luckily she did not get caught. I take it you work for Mayo?

Haha! I got pulled over twice this winter for expired tabs. The first time I had purchased online but never received them in the mail. The sheriff said I never purchased but still gave me a warning. The DMV showed otherwise.

The next time I had the new $11.00 replacements on the dash. The highway patrolman again gave me a warning. You guys need nicer cops down there.
