    I posted this on WC.

I just bought a used Goldwing motorcycle. I would like to have my avatar painted on the bike. I have seen paintings where it seems the object (in this case a flag) is moving. As you move it would seem the flag is waving.

So the questions are ………does this have a technical name? Is their a certain type of painter I need to look for?

Any help would be great. (BTW I’m near Mpls. if anybody knows of a painter around the cities)

i think you need to contact a custom chopper or bike shop..

they should beable to put you intouch with a skilled airbrush artist.. Im guessing youll be shipping your part out to have it done..

    good luck..

Brian, That would be a form “ghost flames” like youve probably seen before. I can run an airbrush, but that is way to technical for me. There’s a guy whose website is something like KustomKolors.com or go to a custom chopper site. Or better yet get a hold of Nubby from American Chopper fame.

I have always wondered this while riding down the highway. It is tough to ask there. Here is my time to ask. Why do Goldwing (made in Japan) riders so often have American flags on their motorcycles and jackets? I have never seen someone on a Harley (made in the good old U.S.A.)with a Japanese flag on it.

When I was a kid I saw this done on toys from a cereal box.

Thats because you are only looking in the usa. Go to japan and you will probably see a harley with a japanese flag on it.
Just because you prefer a honda doesnt mean your not a patriot

A guys buys a Honda and than gets questioned about wanting an American flag on it? kinda uncalled for maybe. He did mention that it was used…its worth noting that from 1979 to 2009 Goldwings were American made in Marysville Ohio. Fly that flag proudly!

I cannot say for a Goldwing, but it does make one also wonder why you see so many bumper stickers supporting a specific political party on a foreign vehicle ( made outside the US ) when the party’s platform is so strong pro union in the US.

This always confuses me personally to see that.

Just because somebody backs a certain party does not mean they agree with everything the party says, its crazy to think that. Why can’t somebody support republican because of there stance on abortion but not like there foreign policies? Why can’t somebody support democrats because of there tax ideas but not like there union ties? Also, since you brought it up maybe you could enlighten us all on which foreign made cars you speak of, because almost all Toyotas, Hondas, Suburus, and Nissans that are sold in the US are made here

I understand people do not support everything a party proposes, it just strikes me as odd with such a heavy union /auto maker slant you see so many foreign cars that fall into this category.

This is America, so buy what you want, this just seems out of place.

As a side note, I think for the most part foreign car plants in the US are not union plants, I could be wrong on that.

Wow…. way to change the tone of a thread guys.

On the flag… the original post. Knowing someone who works at Harley’s custom paint building, it is unreal how much the high-end effects are actually very expensive water decals worked into as many as 15-20 layers of paint and clear. Looking at the finished product, you wouldn’t know if someone didn’t tell you. There are some custom shops in the Cities, but that effect may be over the top for even them. That’s where you start asking though.

I’m a Harley rider, I bought one because I like the looks of the one I bought.

Paid $400+ for a Harley jacket, from the Harley store, in the U.S.A. where was it made? CHINA.

    For what its worth.

For great air brush work I would give Tanner Howard a call, he is local and does amazing work.

All of the foreign brands are made in right to work states.

I guess i’d have to look that up more. I think they are actually manufactured here, not just assembled. I guess my point was that people, no matter what there politics are, shouldn’t have to be critisized based on what they drive. Why can’t a guy be a proud American and drive a foreign brand? I can guarantee nobody on this site strictly buys American made, its near impossible. The foreign cars are all made in right to work states, and those workers do have the right to join the UAW union if they choose.

For an item (be it a pencil or a car) some part of the mfg process needs to be in the USA for it to say “made in USA”. All the parts can be made in China, and if it was assembled in the USA it is made in the USA. Alternatively, if uses all american made parts and is assembled in China then they can also display “made in USA”. As you can see “made in USA” is just a selling point that gets slapped on items and is rarely regulated.

One we can all relate to. St. Croix rods. Made in USA in park falls right? Yup, except the Fuji guides they use are a Japanese company who makes their guides/reel seats in China. The guide thread is probably also made in China, and the paint & coatings are probably also made in China.

Just think if a small city in China changed their name to U.S.A. from a labeling standpoint….

I wasn’t sure what Made In USA meant anymore, thanks. I have no problem with anyone riding a Honda. As a kid, I rode Kawasakis, Yamahas and I have owned a V45 Magna, heck I even owned a Suzuki. I have never owned a Harley, but hey, mid-life seems to be creepin’ up on me

thanks for the clarification kevin. That leads me to believe at least some of the American made foreingn cars are actually made elsewhere. The fact that they create hundreds of jobs in America is enough to make me not judge though. For the record, I own 2 chevy cars

Hmm, that could be interesting. I wonder what our gov would have to say about that? Usa, China. Then display “Made in Usa”. Most people probably wouldnt even catch it.
