Can I use Planer Boards with lead line?

    Sure- very common salmon fishing
The lead needs to be AFTER or behind the planer board, never attach lead to the clips.

Use about 3, 4, or 5 colors of your lead-core, then your mono. Let out the lead to the mono, attach board, troll on and you don’t need to use the ‘deepest’ diving cranks or weight on your ‘bait-rigging’ set-ups.

For walleyes everyone I know hook into the core with board clips.

Ive been clipping to my LC for 5 years now and still have the same LC with no breaks, splits or frays.

Im sure others will disagree with me clipping to the LC but there is now way to argue with the results.

Fishing for salmon is a different story though, as mentioned.

Alright, well I kind of got two opposite responses to my question. Ideally I’d like to clip the board right to the lead core… one response said no and the other reassured that statement so far lol… I generally troll the st. croix river with #5 and #7 shad raps. Will I run into any problems trying to frequently adjust varying depths using planer boards?

You’ll be just fine running lead with the clips attached right to the leadcore.

I use the Off-shore for both walleye and salmon fishing.
On one of my boards, I rigged the ‘tattle-tail’ flag. I like it for wally fishing.

Yes, I have clipped onto the lead(Pb) line before, but I personally don’t like to make it a habit. Personal preference. I think the newer Lead (Pb) lines like the suffix has a better and tougher braid.

What kind of boards would be good for musky baits?

Offshore boards is what I used or the church walleye boards work fine as well.

I have never been happy with the clips on ony board so I change them. At minimum I say the snap weight clip from Offshore with the center pin.

Keep your rod tip up in the rod holder as the lead from board to rod tip will sag a bit, keep the bow out of the waves.
Running boards is not the best method when you are trying to hug the bottom contours. You will have to crank the board in, remove and adjust line behind the board then re-deploy the board. Its not something id be doing every 5 min.

Yeah fishing the St. Croix river with Planer boards might not be very useful since I am constantly following breaklines and adjusting depth to frequent humps and structure. I still might get some planers for mille acs though since I use the same set up for trolling the mud flats. Thanks for the input guys!
