nightcrawlers everywhere

Went out to see just how many nightcrawlers there were on the ground and pavement etc. They were everywhere and the big spring size to boot. We must have gotten close too 2″ of rain last night and its still raining with a few breaks of just a sprinkling. All the grass is green and my apples trees are starting to leaf out at about 3/4″ long leaves. Robins are picking up grass for thier nests and seen a redwing blackbird by some cat tails, so spring is here. Drove over the Cedar river and its up another 2′ over a couple days ago and now is just 4′ below the top of the gates of the dam. At the present depth of the water and give it another 10 degrees of water temperature and it will be another boom year for flathead fishing. When we get a long period of high water the big flatheads come from way down river and get stopped by the dam here in downtown which makes the fishing very good. On the drive to work this morning the creeks are way out of thier banks and theres rain in the forcast for the next several days. I heard the state climatoligist a couple days ago say the moisture is down too about 7′ where it was dry last year and with the recent rains its probably down deeper then that now and now looks like a full moisture content and thats good news. It looks a good start to spring here.

We must have gotten a wave of robins yesterday because I saw hoards of them. They would have had a field-day with all those crawlers! I haven’t seen any crawlers up here, yet.

Yep. Outside my dads window. Baby robin eggs. So cute. And crawlers give that morning “it’s finally spring-ish” feel

Any leeches or creek chubs coming out of the ground? Will travel for bait

    Robins are nesting already?

One of our favorites in our yard are the Goldfinches. Apparently they don’t nest until June/July. They are the probably the latest nesters of the song birds.

Yup, Robins are confused. They’re flying back down south for the summer

It won’t be long for you guys. Talked to the mailman on a job today and he said he heard we got 4″ of rain last night, with isolated areas of even more. He said we got a total of around 8″ in the last 2 days, I didn’t know we got that much as I only guessed and its getting ready to rain again.
