Conflict. Michelle was taping something else, so we couldn’t change the channel. I canceled it and taped the 10 repeat.

    IMHO
I kind of formed a bitter feeling about That Elliot Kid, that punk/gangster facade just doesn’t sit well with me.

On the other Hand I thought it was mighty impressive that he was able to purchase his own boat.

It will be interesting to watch and see how he does.

I was thinking the loan officer that gave Elliot a loan must not watch the show.

I would imagine the boats are making a huge profit whether they catch any crabs or not. If he knew how to get into the show, its not much of a risk for the “young punk”. But i dont know how all of that works out, just assuming that each boat gets a good chunk of change for being on the show.

During the bait, I liked Elliot’s comment about his greenhorn not falling asleep and waking him up BEFORE hitting the ice. Producers show Elliot’s true colors with the time stamped raw footage. That green horn woke up, took a look, CRAPPED his pants, then got Elliot up. Not a trustworthy person in my opinion.

I liked the documentary done on the Time Bandit. Regardless of Jonathan’s past history, hell of a great guy at heart. Andy is clearly the apple at the base of the tree.

I too enjoyed the Time Bandit Special. Pretty cool learning more about the history, and how they go about doing engine swaps.

Did you notice Elliot bought the Saga boat? That boat was on the show with the previous owners in the early seasons of catch. Pretty Cool.

Yes, the Saga was one of the boats on Season 1 or 2. Elliot bought the boat and the quota.

I’m getting the impression that there aren’t actually that many crab boats left. If you look at the AIS tracking during the crab seasons and watch who’s fishing, most Catch fans will will recognize quite a few of the boats out there at any one time. I wonder how much of the fleet has been sold off, converted to other forms of fishing, scrapped, or sunk since the first season of the Catch?

Looks like Jake Harris is still a strung out mess. The shots they showed of him weren’t pretty, shaking like a leaf and sores all over his face. Not good.

And Sig is having problems letting go of the wheel. Who would have thunk it?

They said the fleet was down from nearly 250 boats to about 70. The purchasing of quota is interesting. I’m sure a few captains/boat owners look at selling their quota as just the pure profit. $$$ for not leaving the dock

If you miss any episode you can go to Project free TV and view it there. Since I refuse to pay for TV this is where I go for TV episodes and movies for free.

I heard the fleet number was down to 70 as well and did hear that they stated a number of boats fishing the blues, but didn’t hear the exact number or rewind to get it… A great first show, wanted to see the Time Bandit show, but got the late edition taped, so will see it tonight…

Why is Sig being pressured to hand over the wheel? He looks to be on top of his game. Nobody in the fleet can match his experience and expertise.

From the Bering Sea Fisheries Research foundation:

The modern crab pot fishery (for all BSAI commercial crab species) was conducted for more than 30 years as an open access “Olympic” style derby fishery exhibiting an intense “race for fish” mentality marked by many safety concerns. This changed when a broad-scaled limited access and quota share system known as the Crab Rationalization Program was implemented beginning in 2005. The domestic open access crab fleets in the Bering Sea were large, numbering as many as 350 boats fishing in some years. Rationalized Bering Sea crab resources are currently supporting a combined fishing fleet of approximately 90 unique fishing vessels that participate in varying levels among the open fisheries. All managed species are fished by permitted vessels with owned or leased crab quota shares. There are approximately 500 quota share (QS) holders in the rationalized fisheries made up of crab harvesters and crab processors.

My thoughts exactly! BUT I assume his father had a lot to do with that purchase Nobody would give an inexperienced boat owner with no comparable credit a 1.5M dollar loan, trust me.

Right, and if his lil’ bro wants a boat, go get one. I don’t get why he thinks he will run Sigs boat, clearly Sig isnt even close to letting it go!

Isn’t the boat owned by the entire family? It isn’t just Sig’s.

Also he bought the boat’s quotas. So there are assets backing the loan, both the boat and the quota. I suspect that would have played into it. There must be somebody out there who lent him money.
