Dishwasher?

Our dishwasher seems to be showing some demons. I am not sure how old it is as it was in the house when we bought it 10 years ago. We are thinking that it might be a better investment to buy a new machine versus fixing it.

So, what should be look for in a new machine? To be honest, we don’t even know what to expect for in price. Hoping some other IDOers have had to make a similar purchase recently.

    Thanks,

Is it just not getting the dishes clean or are there mechanical problems??

Our dishwasher’s performance started lacking so I stopped at the Truevalue in my town to look at new ones and when I told the guy what was going on he pointed to a product that you stick in there and run a cycle, it made a world of difference. It’s called Dishwasher Magic.

If it is just a cleaning issue try that….A LOT cheaper than a new machine.

When you go shopping ask them which ones get returned for not getting the dishes clean and which don’t. If you’ve got a good salesman they will let you know.

Just went through this in December. Didn’t really get much help at ApplianceSmart. Some other places talked about features. Our best experience was at the Lowes in Maple Grove. From what I could see a good value could be had for plus or minus $500.

We got sucked into the shiny floor model that was more money but significantly discounted. Had some issues getting the dishes clean but switched detergents. That seemed to clear it up.

We bought a Fridigaire Professional from Warner Stellion last year and really like it. However by far the biggest improvement was putting in a water softer afterwards. Even the new one was getting calcified quickly but no more with soft water.

We’ve been pleased with our Bosch. Keeps the dishes clean and you can barely tell its running. The old one we replaced I think they neighbors could hear whenever we were running it.

Price I don’t remember other than more than I thought, but a lot cheaper than the stainless exterior (this ones just stainless inside) one she wanted. And by a LOT cheaper I mean it didn’t lead to ‘needing’ a stainless stove and refridge too sine they wouldn’t match anymore.

We do currently have a water softener. I have topped it off recently, but who knows, maybe it stopped working.

The issues are both mechanical and a significant decline in cleaning quality. I noticed a lot of build up on glasses, so I refilled the ” liquid cleaner” thingy/ It helped a little, but in the end the we still find things plastic dishes chalky.

We have the same problem with the filmy look on the glasses. I mentioned (bad idea) that hand washing the dishes did a better job and besides, she basically hand washed them prior to putting them in the washer anyway.

I have since learned my lesson. I have no opinion on dishwashers, no matter who is asking.

if the problem is the filmy build up not a mechanical issues hard water is probably the issue…make sure that the salt in the softener has not hollowed out..recyle the softener and try it again..all cheaper than a new dishwasher that said life expectancy is about 8 to 10 years on all appliances

This may be your problem? I have had a lot of customers complaining the last year. Some are even making there own soap.

Thanks for the article. Very interesting, but the changes is cleaning quality occurred midway through the box of detergent.

Pretty easy to get a water test. Just fill a bottle from the tap and take it to some place that sells water softeners. Takes just a few minutes to test it.
