Vikings Stadium

The Minnesota House Taxes Committee is set to review a proposal for new sales taxes on sports jersey and other memorabilia licensed by pro teams as a way to help pay for the struggling Minnesota Vikings stadium project.

The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. The committee’s chairwoman, Rep. Ann Lenczewski, proposed the sports memorabilia tax amid concerns of lagging tax revenues from electronic gambling that are supposed to pay the state’s share of the $975 million stadium. She would also extend the state sales tax to luxury seats at pro sports venues.

Lenczewski voted against the Vikings stadium bill last year but says it’s every lawmaker’s responsibility to address concerns about funding. Gov. Mark Dayton has said he thinks concerns stadium tax revenue are overblown but says it’s the prerogative of legislators to consider backup financing.

Do I understand this corectly? That other Minnesota sports teams will help pay for this boon dogle, by a tax on luxury seats and sports gear???

can they even do this? Why wouldnt the other teams if this is true stand up and say no way?

It is funny to think that this POS is still running down the tracks.

If you were to build a new house, didn’t break ground and lost your job – I think you might say – please stop the construction, I don’t think I can pay for this.

The reason that outstate gaming works (pulltabs, etc.) is that bar patrons rationalized their spending on the simple fact that their spending on them, would find its way back into the local community, via charitable contributions from the proceeds. I think this might have been overlooked when you ask a person from I Falls, Duluth, Grand Marais, Worthington, etc. to fire up the electronic gaming station to send some money to the NY owned MN Vikings.

    2 cents

Oh well – just hope and pray that it all works out.

Viking owners need money for a stadium. But I don’t think the owners have it so bad now or they would sell out.

Mayo Clinic needs money for Destination Medical Center, even though they are doing quite well without it so far. If they don’t get it, the will invest their money elsewhere.

When do our Mn State politicians start thinking about how to get me a cut of the money?

Amazing how Zygi has dropped out of sight since the stadium bill was approved.

Sources put Wilf’s net worth at about $1.3 billion. You’d think he’d pitch in a few $M to cover the pulltab shortfall (chump change for him) – would do wonders from a public relations standpoint. Not sure who I’m MOST upset with – Gov. Goofy, the state legislature or Zygi.

Minnesota has been fleeced again……., and again, and again.

His net worth isn’t $1.3 billion for nothing.

Some how MN and all states need to stop bowing to blackmail.

    Stadiums or otherwise.

He could easily kick in 3% per year for debt service.

    However …..

You are assuming the buidling of the stadium is an investment or a money pit….

I think that fact that the State of MN is going to own the stadium should tell you the answer to that question.

Target Center is also a drain on public funds….just ask the city of Minneapolis

$150 million was included in the Viking stadium funding for the renovation of Target Center.

I hope Bill’s Gun Shop buys the new stadium naming rights for $10.00 and a gift certificate for 5 hours on the shooting range.

I think it is a great idea to tax those that want to support the over paid entertainment millionaires and billionaires and perpetuate the paying of a poverty level service industry so one can be entertained. You want something so frivolous your willing to pay the big bucks to go to a game or buy some silly memorabilia and step on someones back to get it, whats a few extra bucks going to hurt? Is there some line these people wont cross? I have yet seen that line. They may [censored] about the cost but they still pay it.

This is fnhimer crazy to even wine about!!!!!!!!

Corporate welfare is ok I guess but god forgive those in need that this corporation is creating all in the name of greed to be entertained.
