I have a 2011 Tracker V18 Targa Combo and the fuel gauge always reads full. I bought it brand new and it has never worked. I have taken it back to them twice to fix it. Both times they told me they fixed it, but it still reads full. Has any body had this issue or have any ideas, so I can get finally get this fixed.

    Thanks for any advice.

It may not be the gauge its self, might it be the sensor in the tank?

What did your dealer do twice to fix it?

It can only be 4 different things going on.

    1- bad ground/power issue/chaffed wire issue
    2- bad sending unit
    3- bad gauge
4- all of the above combined

Let us know what you find out.

They said they put a new sending unit on the first time. This last time they said they had problems with the float in the tank sticking to something at the top of the tank, so they put a spacer on the float.

When you turn the key on does the gauge needle go from empty to full?

If dash gauge reads FULL WHEN YOU KNOW THE TANK IS ONLY HALF FULL OR EVEN LESS the wiring between the tank or the sender is probably bad.

Ground the gas tank sender terminal using a jumper wire (this will take the resistange of the sender out of the gauge and wiring system), if the dash gauge still shows full there is bad wiring between the dash gauge and the tank sender or a bad gauge.

If the dash gauge goes to empty then from that point to your gauge is working fine and the gas tank sender is defective as long as you know the float is not all the way up.

This only works if you know for sure you are down on fuel and the float is not stuck. Depending how your float sits you may burn a third of a tank before the float even starts to move.

Before you try any of this try hitting the top of your fuel sender in the tank with your fist and see if the gauge moves. If it does then your float was stuck.
