How long is it going to take to disable everything they got, maybe two days or three at most, they’ll get hammered and very quickly. N. Koreas a fraction of the size that Iraq was and they were disabeled in just a couple days.

If a land war breaks out there will be no more N. Korea and I don’t think China will send troops because the rest of the world will cut them off from making anything for the rest of us which results in no work for the china economy. It would be wise for China to kick their butts from the north and our forces will take care of the southern parts of the country.

Problem is that they have so much poised to launch, most of it aimed to hit South Korea and Japan. The first hour of a new war there could cost millions of lives. We have 28,000 US troops there, lots of them stationed between the border and Seoul. No good solution there I think.

Does anyone remember the old Peter Sellers movie, “The Mouse That Roared”? It involves the smallest country in the world going bancrupt and they realize the fastest way out is to declare war against the US, lose and let the US rebuild their country and give them all the aid they can spend.

It goes horribly wrong, but maybe that’s what Fearless Leader has in mind. Their economy sucks, so if they declare war against the US, let them fire off a rocket or two and surrender, they can get all kinds of aid. Of course it would just be cheaper to ask, but Fearless Leader doesn’t strike me as the brightest firefly in the swarm.

The only way they would get aid is if the current regime was ousted. That doesn’t seem very high on Fearless Leader’s list of priorities..

North Korea is no Iraq. From conversations with an uncle who served in the military and fought in the Koren war, fighting a war there is no walk in the park. North korea is a mountainous country with huge weather extremes. Not to mention a crazy leader that probably has the troops dug into the mountain side already.

If you think the war in Iraq was expensive, wait till this one gets going.

No country is going to have to attack us to beat us, they’ll just wait till we are bankrupt and buy us out.

China owns a lot of the US Debt… but I doubt they will want to see us go under. China has already been building up troop and equipment levels near NK.. in preparation with what will NEED to be done sooner or later.

This is exactly the problem. North Korea is, in essence, holding South Korea as a hostage. No matter how superior the US is in terms of firepower, South Korea is going to bear the brunt of the casualites.

There is also the China Question. While China has been slowly distancing itself from its Brother in the Socialist Struggle, there is a lingering question of what (if any) involvement China would have in a revived Korean War.

If you’ll recall, when we hit the pause button on the Korean War, China had PLENTY of skin in the game. That was then, this is now, but the question remains. China is NOT going to be a big fan of the US (and allies) fighting a dirty little war right up on their doorstep.

Obviously, there will also be a situation whereby thousands of North Korea’s privildged class of party stooges, probaby including Kim Wang Dong, himself. They will, of course, try to escape to take shelter in China when the spit hits the spam. That causes many, many future issues.

Finally, what’s the end-game scenario here? North Korea launches first strike, US pounds his Kimness into oblivian, rest of country collapses.

Then what? South Korea assumes ownership of a “reunited” Korea? I don’t think so. China will NOT be a fan of that plan and I seriously question if South Korea could handle inhereting an epic White Elephant of that scale. Putting two German halves back together was one thing. Putting two Koreas back is a totally different kettle of kimchi.

At the same time, there will be next to no appetite in this country for the US taking over another wrecked third-world country. After all, we’re already saddled with California.

If this turns into a war, it won’t be pretty and it won’t be over for at least a decade.

The big problem is, even though the US and our allies don’t want a war, and I don’t think China wants a war, the finger on the trigger belongs to that little nut-case. Even if they do something to provoke it like they have in the past, the balloon could go up. That will suck big time.

I’m concerned but not ready to panic just yet

The sky isn’t quite falling, but I’m wondering if he’s bluffing and he’s just doing this to puff his chest and show his own people his power and military strength
