My wife has a conference in lacrosse for the weekend so I figured I’d take the opportunity to fish some new territory, initially I was planning on hitting either the float in genoa or lacrosse for some sauger and perch but with the river getting all the runoff would it really pay or should I jus bring my ice fishing stuff heard about schaeffers landing ???? for perch but ive never been out around lacrosse so pretty clueless, have done some backwater ice fishing but mostly Merrick north to pepin, I know a lot of the stuff I fish up there can be sketchy late season as far as ice goes, just looking to get a rough idea on what’s happening, any help would be really appreciated and could definitely offer some spots/good bites in the Chippewa county region in exchange

most of the water is open. you might be able to find some ice in the back channels. not sure if the floats are open yet either. week and a half ago I know some people were slaying the perch through the ice. not sure if its still froze over but its a side channel of the black river called catgut.

Float at Genoa is open but bite has been tough. Lots of ice reportedly coming thru the dam since they opened a few rollers.

I would imagine best case scenario the shorelines are going to get pretty sketchy by then. I was out last weekend near trempeleau and there was still plenty of ice, but I would be hesitant to try it again

Trolled from pool# 2 to #16 last weekend {in the car}. Saw ice fishing to at least Stoddard and DeSoto. But I would walk behind a local. Lots of open water everywere. As for a boat, lots of melting. If the open the locks it will be a mess with all the ice and wood above the dams. Sunday mostly just small chunks below the dams. Suprised the lack of boats below the dams on most pools, exc 4. Think the secret is out.

Think visibility is gunna improve by Friday or will the murk hold out for a while yet, starting to think about just looking for back channels to perch fish or do they get muddy too, there many refuges to watch out for was kind of thinking bout trying below the dam at neshonoc

Another place that may have good ice is Green Lake at Blackhawk Park near Genoa. I fished there a week ago and there was still 2 feet of ice. The river is actually going down at Lansing so getting on the ice may not be too bad of a problem. Take a spud bar if you have one.
