another MN AIS Sticker slowly advancing

The most recent amended Bill language isn’t available yet. But in a nutshell; Displayed Annual AIS sticker, motorized less then 26 ft. $10, more for larger, less for non-motorized. Could have misdemeanor penalty!!!

You pay once a yr for your largest boat, then $1 for any other boats you have (lots of room for abuse here). Out-State $20. Buying the Sticker and placing it on your boat constitutes that you have been AIS Educated!

Study the feasibility of using Hwy weigh stations for catching out of state boaters with AIS.

Take 2 million from AIS account and use it for grants to LUG’s and Lake Associations.

So if I am driving thru on my way to Canada or the Dakotas, I still have to drop $20 for an out of state sticker?

Although I know nothing about AIS or it’s stickers…

I would think it only would apply if the boat was in the water…but the whole truck weigh station has me baffled.

Oh, FYI I forgot this. Border Waters will be exempted from needing the Sticker. (at least in the latest engrossment of the Bill)

So they could inspect the boat, for AIS, at the weigh stations, but the sticker wouldn’t be required unless the boat was floating?

Minnasota must not like tourists to fish with there own boat. When in MN. pay boat rental or just stay away. Bypass and go to Canada.

All the aspects of the Bill are still in flux. But the sticker would be required to be attached if you attempt to launch into public inland waters. They discussed a one year grace period or making it a Petty Misdemeanor. If not then a sentence of not more than 90 days or a fine of not more than $1,000, or both, may be imposed.

Solutions for what? You tell me what we have to look for. Ive done my part on informing and its gone ignored by obviously you and others. Repetitiveness does not work to those that do not want to take action but only want to [censored].

PS. Still doing my part on the legislative side and enjoying confronting the bitchers or the ones that feel entitled with out a fight.

I’ve done the research why not others?

Look back at what I have discussed Brian.
In the account of the St.Croix on the Zebra muscles I eluded to the croix can not sustain a population of infestation due to factors I discussed and gave reasons. This was back a time or so. Get this, The Croix is in major decline of Zebra infestation and the reasoning by the DNR contradicts what was foretold years ago. Why is that?

So are there any special hoops that one has to jump through to buy this sticker, like taking a test or something else demonstrating some sort of knowledge about AIS?

If not, why can’t buying a boat license (as we do now) constitute that you’ve been educated?

Oops, then they can’t charge you ANOTHER tax.

Let’s face it, if no real “education” is being had here then that’s all this is…a tax for no good reason other than to suck more blood out of the middle class.

    3.13 Sec. 3. REPEALER.

    3.14Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 86B.13, is repealed.

    S.F. 1442 link

This repeals the Law enacted last year requiring everyone take an Online Course on A.I.S. and then getting a sticker for your trailer.

    2012 86b.13 link

This is continuing to be the BIGGEST CIRCUS and will continue to make MINNESOTA the Laughing stock of the Country as far as our Legislature is concerned and their ability to set a Policy and keep it.

PAss a last this year, Repeal next year with a new law to be enacted taking effect next year, next year comes and they enact another new law repealing this years law with something new for next year.

    How STUPID!

As somebody that’s been in the transportation industry for 30 years, did you ever argue to let semi’s drive through the state without being exposed to an inspection?

I say good. If they are coming into the state with AIS attached to their boat, and get offended by an inspection, and won’t come back? Didn’t want them to come here in the first place if they are going to transport AIS into Minnesota waters. Having a clean boat does not take a great deal of effort.

Good for the legislators, get it done.

What about the people, that take the time to clean their boat, that get offended and don’t come to your state? Why should somebody that cleans their boat, have to pay a fee, so they can try to catch the guys that don’t?

Good if a person assumes ais is a bad thing.

I think all vehicles should be stopped when entering into MN.

    We can check for…

    Truck logs
    Registration
    Valid Drivers License
    Open bottle
Turn signals and brake lights working
Might as well give then a DOT inspection.
Test the driver for drugs/alcohol/blood content.
    The notorious assault looking weapons.
Anyone having more then 7 rounds of ammo
Too many rods/lines in the boat. (if there’s more then 1 per angler, someone MIGHT use two)
    Number of PFD’s/throwables.
    Plugs in
    Thread on tires
    Inflation of tires
    Proper fishing license
Number of fish-if there’s skin on while transporting

If they’ve paid their water bill and other utility bills.

    I’m all for mandatory stops.

    Good Job Legislators.

Just because YOU know what your doing there are 10 others out there that might take some zebs to a lake that’s filled with AIS…(called lake shore owners with gates.)

What is wrong with these people? I’m pretty sure they know that a sticker won’t do anything to solve this made up AIS “problem”. This, in my opinion, looks very much like a way to raise money for lake shore associations so they can come up with new ways to keep people off “their” lakes. Creating a new tax and using the money for grants for lake associations is an absolute slap in the face to all fisherman in MN. How thorough are there checkpoints really gonna be? I’m not opposed to smuggling zebra muscles out of spite

well we can be relatively certain that the checkpoint inspections won’t include a body-cavity search
and at least as of yet, there’s no law against jumping off your boat and “taking a little swim”
