The RTIC softsides have pretty crappy zippers, at least mine does. We don’t even zip ours shut anymore since it’s such a PITA.

This thread made me search soft side coolers as I have been thinking of an upgrade. I am ordering a Artic Zone Titan it has a ton of good reviews and is Amazon’s choice whatever that means. Will report back on how it works. No zipper some sort of a latch system. My buddy has an RTIC 30 and the zipper does suck, his clasp broke and now has a great looking ziptie on it. I have a Yeti roto mold and it is great at keeping ice but is huge and heavy and does not hold enough.

I can second this. Mine is junk as well. I wouldn’t spend a nickel on another product from them. Customer service was awful as well.

What kind of activities are you guys doing where you need these? Only reason I could see the need for one would be long excursions into the woods like a Canada fishing trip or for keeping a kill from spoiling.

That’s the only type of trip I use my rotomolded cooler for. Week-long trips to Canada that are completely off the grid with no running to a QuickieMart for more ice. That’s what they are great at and I only need to move the coolers once when full, so the weight of a 55-quart cooler is at least manageable for 2 guys.

Also, they ARE nice when your cooler has to sit in a hot car or in the back of a truck for extended periods of time. I did take the rotomolded cooler to the state trapshooting meet because it was 100 degrees and the cooler had to stay in the back of the SUV, so it was even hotter. It kept ice for 3 days no problem, filled it and forget it.

But outside of those rather specialized needs, the rotos are too heavy and bulky for me.

Never had the slightest problem. Yes, they are stiff when new, but I can see where you can’t have a zipper that has a waterproof seal and slides like an old jacket zippper.

I applied the zipper lube they supply a couple of times and now both my RTIC 30 and the newer 20 work as easily as I could expect.

I will second this. My buddy has an RTIC softside and the zipper is terrible.
