Fishing Plastic Storage Idea

I never really liked the idea of having a binder to hold all of my plastics when I am out in the boat because they usually don’t hold enough packages or they always find a way to leak/tear. I came up with this idea last season on a better way (at least for me) to store all of my plastics.

I went out and bought four of the Plano Spinnerbait tackle boxes and ended up pulling the plastic inserts out of each one of them except for my Crappie Plastics box.

The above image is a side view of the panfish plastics that I have. I left the inserts inside this tackle box because it is very easy to separate the tubes from the twister tails and the other style plastics. Also, the dividers allow me to be able to locate which type of plastic very quickly, instead of having to sort through all of the tiny panfish plastic packages inside the box.

Above is just an overhead view of how the panfish plastics box looks. Notice how the inserts separate each style of plastic.

Other than panfish plastics, I also use the spinnerbait boxes for my walleye and bass plastics as well. It works very well without the inserts for the bigger plastics because I can just flip through the packages and find the style that I am looking to use on any particular day.

I hope this tip helps keep you guys a little more organized when you’re out in the boat and it also will give you a little project to feed that open water itch that a lot of us are getting at the moment!

    Plastics? Who uses plastics?

But seriously, where did you get them, how much did they cost and how many do they have left?

I divide my plastics by type Ringworms Paddle tails etc, they go into gallon zip lock bags which go into a plastic Kitty Liter container which fits perfect in my in floor storage.

Good idea, but I do have one issue, I personally hate having the plastics in the resealable bags and having to constantly open and re-open the bags when sifting through new colors and profiles of plastics. I like having my plastics in separate compartments of a divider box that way I can just flip the top and grab the plastic I want and shut the box again no trying to reseal the bag.

I use to do it this way with all of my panfish plastics, but they usually would end up drying out over the course of the years.

As to where I picked these up? I got them at the Tackle Warehouse for around $5.00. They really work well. I love that I can just throw them into the storage areas of my boat and just sift through the plastics that I’m looking for with relative ease.

I use a tackle binder, kind of a pain, but I think it is the best for the long term of the plastic.

Gallon ziplocks here too for boat storage. When bank fishing I just grab what I think I will need and leave the rest in the boat.

If you think storing plastics is a pain, try gulp/powerbait jars. The small ones fit well in a shoebox style tupperware but the big ones are just plain annoying.

Really? I have never had that issue to date, definitely can happen Im sure. I would expect when using gulp baits that are in a solution those would dry up over time but I have never gotten into the gulp scent inoculated baits.
