Hey everyone. I am looking for the best battery (size/brand/price) for my boat within the Rochester area. She is a small 14.5 footer – transom. The current battery is at my feet (see diagram). It came with a 24. I plan on upgrading to a 27 or 29. A 29 may not work as it may start to take away my foot space – what little there is. Note that this battery would be dual purpose starter and troller (transom mount 36lb Endura). Any feedback would be appreciated as purchasing marine batteries is new to me. Oh, and any advice on that battery tray as well. I am assuming my little 24 would need to be swapped out. – Thanks!

I’ve always had good luck with energizer batteries from sam’s club. I run 2 31s (I think) for my trolling motor which I replace every 3 years and a 24 (I think) which I’ve been running for 5 years now. I run a 10amp minnkota 3-bank charger to charge and maintain them all year… all that may contribute to the success I’ve had with those batteries.

For a battery tray, I purchased one from cabelas for my starter battery which uses two clips and a strap to hold it down. Then if I need to remove the box its as easy as removing the strap. The box also has an auxiliary CIG lighter plug for a spotlight or whatever else.

I’d be happy to chat with you

Do not skimp on a battery the best deal may not be the best battery. A good battery that is taken care of will last you a long time, see the link to my post below and the second link has some good info as well.
