Hey what ever happen to boat ettique? On the Pool 4 this past weekend. Boat captains running through at full throttle…”waking everyone” I thouoght it was polite, or good ettique to throttle down when in traffic…maybe I was miss informed…

It is. Not everyone got the memo. Some that did chose to ignore it. My suggestion is to accept that pool 4 will always have a few numbskull-hot rodders in the spring and focus on enjoying the time on the water. I’ve talked to the sheriff, CO’s that patrol the area and anyone else with a badge that would listen and they don’t seem to care enough to be willing to get involved.

Yep, it’s that time of year.

Best to just take a deep breath, easier said than done.

Same is true for boats drifting with their backs to other boats. Just because you don’t turn around, doesn’t mean you don’t need look behind you once in a while. There are people who pitch wing dams and other sand bar areas as opposed to drifting.

May 11th timeframe the river usually has many less anglers!

I would much rather have a boat run wide open by me(if they are a safe distance away). Then run at 10 MPH. The wake is much smaller at wide open….

I hear you Angler, although I would much rather have a boat idle by me so I can talk to them as they go by.

Maybe that’s why few spare the horses when they know I’m out there.

Karma will catch up with those guys.

My wife and I were out there last spring pitching to the wing dam where the vermillion comes in. A nice ranger bass boat boat with 5 people in it comes buzzing by at 1/4 throttle between us and the wing dam heading toward the vermillion (about 15 ft from us). I’m looking at the guy and thinking, “seriously?”. He kept moving towards the dam, and I turned to my wife and said: “Watch this, he is going to crush the dam”. No sooner had the words came out of my mouth, and crunch… All the people in boat toppled, and his lower unit was in rough shape once he brought it up. I’m not going say that I wished it on him, but karma is a be-och.

If you think 4 is bad, you should take a trip to Depere in the next few weeks.

I was just thinking this as I was reading…. LOL

There is a ton of this conversation about traffic below the Dells in WI as well. Some argue it is better on plane, others say it is rude as heck. Coming off plane will swamp a guy if done too late… traffic is traffic, and it can all be a pain.

I like the chill out, and take your time plan, even if it isn’t a common acceptance.

All different kinds of boats out there this weekend. Some could handle a wake better than others. Some looked to have less than 5 inches of gunel to water clearance.

You MUST remember… it doesnt take much of a brain to buy a boat.

I always get a kick out of this time of year. It seems to be the same people every year who tell the world how awesome pool 4 is and then they are the first to complain about all the boats or parking or traffic ect. Sorry to say but yall brought it upon yourselves…

I used to think the same way then decided it wasnt worth it. I havent been there spring fishing in years. I got sick of combat fishing when I was younger. There are way to many other things to do or places to fish to put up with that IF it takes the fun away.

    Wait a minute!

I heard about “Red Wing” in the ’60’s. Holst must be hiding his age rather well.

There’s 11 miles of river from the head of the lake to the dam. All have fish in them. Some even have bass I hear!

You just don’t like the ramp fees Mike…go ahead, admit it.

I was out there too. I read these posts that it’s better to zip by then flood people out with wake going mid speed. So that’s what I did. If I could manage to plane out and stay on the other side of the river – I did. I didn’t mean to be a dick. If there was a pack of boats on both sides… I went slow. There is a small window to plane out between groups – so sometimes the edge boats may have seen more wake. But I was honestly doing my best. But going from everets all the way to the dam going 3 mph takes a while. Might as well put the trolling motor down and start fishing up stream right when you launch from everet’s!

I fished pool 4 for the first time on Saturday. I had a blast. I can’t remember being in water that crowded before and I was apprehensive at first. Once I got in and started catching fish I settled down and started having fun. When I was dragging there were a few times that several boats came buzzing by but in my opinion for that many boats in that tight of an area most people were very considerate. I’d rather deal with a busy Saturday on pool 4 than a bunch of skiers and tubers on a lake.

BTW.. service at Everts was great. Brian, it was a good to meet you and your advice was spot on. I didn’t however land that 30″ walleye I was looking for.

My overall first impressions were Pool 4 fisherman in the spring playing bumper boats were extremely polite and considerate. Considering the amount of boats in close quarters. Try that with people up on Leech or Winnie on opener and see the lack of respect and confrontations.

If you want to fish the scour hole or the uni-boob hump on the east side of the scour hole on Saturday afternoon and expect to be alone, you’d have better luck going to MOA on a weekend when Justin Beaner and Taylor Swift were doing an all day free concert and autograph signing event.
