    Good Morning,

I have gotten such good feedback in the past, that my lovely wife requested that I see what your thoughts are on the above vehicle.

We are looking for a vehicle with comfortable seats we can sit in for 2-3 hours without having to get out, get decent gas mileage, and have enough cargo space to handle luggage for 2 adults / 2 kids for say a week long trip.

So far we have test drove the Edge and like it quite a bit, and also took a look at the Santa Fe, Vesta, and Mazda – 9.

At this point we are leaning towards the Edge.

Any feedback if you have an edge or other cross over would be great, thanks guys…

My neighbor across the street was in Vancouver during the Olymipcs for work and had one rented there. He liked it so much that when he came back home he bought one for the family here.

Take a look at the Dodge Journey as well. Had ours since 2009 and love it.

My wife liked the edge as well, we ended up with a Lincoln mkx. After looking at literally hundreds of vehicles we found that a Lincoln is only a little more money and once you drive the two you will realize how much quieter and smoother down the road the Lincoln is. Plus they come standard with a lot of things the edge doesn’t.

Good luck in tour search. You won’t be disappointed.

My GF bought a 2013 Edge (SEL I think) and she/we really likes it.Since she has only ever owned smaller cars the size is/was a little intimidating for her = it sits higher and is wider than she was used to.We are a little older so comfortable seats were a must and the seats are comfortable in the Edge. She just told me the gas milage she got on a hundred mile trip we took the other day. I don’t recall what it was off hand but know I was surprised how good it was on gas. You should have no problem storing lugage for a family of four unless you pack a lot of stuff. As a comparison, we took my GFs sons 2012 Escape to the airport for a 9 day vacation a while back. 5 people with lugage and a carry on apc and we were able to cram that into the Escape- the Edge has more storage space.
Not one problem with the Edge since she bought it one year ago. I wish I could say the same about my 2012 F 150 I bought last Oct as that’s been back to the dealer 4 times but that’s a whole nother story.
Bottom line is I think you would be happy going with the Edge.

If your not married to the idea of buying domestic I would look at the Subaru Crosstrek. I just bought one and am very happy with it. 33mpg and plenty of room for a smaller SUV. Needless to say all-wheel-drive and Subaru’s run forever! Price is not super expensive either…

    Thanks everyone.

I am not married to domestic, but it is one of our criteria to be honest.

The edge with Eco boost gets about 30 MPG on the highway which is nice. It also appears to have enough cargo room for 4 carry on suitcases, plus a couple pillows ( very nice for the travel we do )

My LW has ridden in a couple Subaru’s lately and did not think their seats would were very comfortable. Between my back and her neck, comfortable seats are very important this time around.

I used to work in a Level 1 Trauma Center and you can imagine there was a lot of talk about which cars were safest to put your family in, so when that drunk or texting teen hits you, your loved ones can walk away. So, let me be the guy that chimes in on this one from a safety standpoint.

First, Ford makes many highly rated safe vehicles. I also like Ford because they didn’t take bail out money from the government. I too drove an Edge on a business trip and was favorably impressed. I’m a believer in the Ecoboost engine. However, when I went back and checked the safety ratings for the Edge they weren’t as high as other Fords, other carmakers. The frontal crash rating for the Edge was only 3 out of 5 stars.

So, if safety is a consideration for you, you may want to compare the Edge to other mid sized SUV’s that got 4 or 5 stars on frontal rating: Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain, Dodge Journey, Honda Pilot, Honda CRV, Kia Sorento, Toyota Highlander, etc.

    Just another angle to consider…

We purchased the ’13 edge with the EcoBoost and so far have averaged about 24 mpg this winter. We drove a lot of crossovers and found ourself coming back to the edge because it seemed so much more stable than all of the others. That EcoBoost 4 cyl has about the same 0-60 as the 6 cyl. Although, the 4 cyl does not offer a towing package.

We’re looking forward to warmer weather to see what kind of mileage it’ll get.

I’d say get one. You shouldn’t be disappointed.

Mrs. Grouse is buying a Lincoln MKX today. Well worth a look if you’re in the market.

I can’t believe we’re buying a Ford product, I’ve been a lifelong GM guy and Her Euroness has always driven expensive, fussy, and hard to maintain European heavy iron.

One drive of the Lincoln and they had us. We drove the Edge too, but the step up in sophistication and warranty from Ford to Lincoln is worth it IMO.

By the way, you mentioned the Mazda CX-9 and also ride quality in your original post. My LW drove a Mazda CX-9 on a lease for 2 years. Great acceleration and handling. However, it has a “sport-tuned suspension.” What this means on our Minnesota roads (bumps, potholes, receded manhole covers, etc) – it equates to a ride quality that would best be described as “rough as Hell!”

There were times you had to hold your breath going over routine bumps, and hope you didn’t knock your teeth out on things like railroad tracks. Long trips ended in neck/back pain for both of us. Kids that sat in the rear 3rd seat felt like they were going to “eject” at times…

Our friend that owns one on the smooth roads in Florida absolutely loves his CX-9. But we live in the North and thankfully, we only had a 2 year lease on that vehicle and it is someone elses now..

The MRs has a 2008 Edge. We have been very pleased with it. It rides 4 adults just fine. IT is a AWD so mileage is mid 20’s on long trips. Would buy again.

My daughter and son-in-law are on their second Edge. Loved the first and got the 2nd 3 years later. They had a couple of problems with the sync system but nothing else. Theirs is not an ecoboost as it wasn’t available yet when they got it.

I have a 2007 Edge AWD & love it mid 20s mpg on the road and no trouble pulling my 16 foot Rebel. MPG does drop to about 20 when towing.
