I just mounted my Terrova I pilot link on my boat. Im getting a 898 SI HD. Is it better to mount at the counsel or the front bow area. Any thoughts or experiences either way. Some day I would like on at each, but for now which one. I do drag and pitch the most, but still do troll a good deal.

You may find that you will use the remote fob quite a bit. So for mapping navigation and the like you might want it on the consul.

Could you mount it to swivel to serve both?

Get a quick release mount for 30 bucks that will allow you to move it back and forth if you put the ducer in the back for imaging use and then just use the trolling motor for regular 2-D sonar.

Make that 2 quick release mounts.

I’d put it on a heavy duty Ram mount

But I can see mounting one on the bow and at the helm

Plus 2 power supplies and a second transducer.

But that total will still be cheaper than a second total unit.

A swivel is still the better alternative imho.

Are you talking a Johnny Ray Mount?

I think those things are kind of chincy

A heavy duty ram mount would do exactly what that JR mount would do + more cause you can manuver it in to any position

Not necessarily Joe, Any mount that would fit his location and swivel. Allowing his unit to turn 180 degrees easily.

    Denny:

I understand your point, but I’m just concerned with the fact that the cheaper swivel model might not be strong enough to take the constant abuse a unit the size of an 898 would put on it I can see that for a unit with a 5 or 6 inch screen, but I like the heavy duty rams for the larger graphs. Not just for the functional purpose of being able to move it into any position you want, but they have a really solid base for anchoring those bigger units

I mounted my 987csi on the dash and a Low Lcx15mt on the bow for many years (more than 7 years) I did not have an issue with the Jonnies. I had the largest jonnie base that would fit my mounts for both units in the past. It was handy and I had no issues with that setup. I don’t remember which one it was now, here is a link to them.

The OP’s new bird could do ok but, a 1100 HB series I would not use them for. When I switched out my units I debated inbetween an all alumiun unit and the ram unit. Ram everyone was pointing to the style with a 2″ plus ball size. It just struck me as massive and visualy abusive/clumsy. I’m sitting here trying to think of the brand I used and can’t come up with it yet, dang brainfarting again!

I used these to mount both of my units so I could switch them if I wanted to.
