Silverado 4WD issues.

Go a 99 Silverado that I lost the 4wd on a couple of weeks ago. Had 4 high going and decided hit the button for 4 low. It tried switching over and then the service 4wd light came on. Still got 2wd. Anyone one got any ideas where I need to start looking to try and fix this? Truck is stuck in the snow and ice along side the garage and getting the 4wd bak will go a long ways to me getting out of there.

    Thanks

I dont know if the 99 is the same as the 97 but I had the actuator on the front axel go bad. The transfer case would shift but the front axel would not lock in.

It sounded to me like it tried to shift and then just went into the service 4wd mode.

Reading some stuff on line this morning about issues with the control switch in the dash and watched a quick video on changing out the actuator. Both seem like simple fixes but still not sure if either one is the problem. Maybe I miss stated this above. Had Auto 4wd but when I tried switching over to 4low then the service 4wd button came on. At this point I would be happy to get things even back to Auto 4wd.

I am having a problem with my 4×4 as well. I have an 01 but I don’t have the push button on the dash, I have a big shift stick on the floor. Does this require a tccm as well or am I stuck spending $275

I know this is a “LONG SHOT” but would disconnecting the BATTERY ” RESET ANYTHING”?

Was thinking the same thing. Going to give that a try right after breakfast.

I replaced 3 or 4 of these on our 98. Very well could be that. Spendy little box. We also had to replace the switch once.

I had the switch go out on my 98 chevy silverado once, and it gave me the service 4-wheel drive light on the dash, so I’d test the switch first, and go from there

You need to get a scan tool on it. To many things it could be… And encoder motor or TCCM needs to be programmed after they’re replaced I believe.

I had a 99 silverado that i just traded. Same problem twice. Both times it was the switch on the dash. I think the switch was about 60 bucks its real easy to change.

Pulled the battery cable and put it back on. Switch says auto 4wd again and will switch back and forth between that and 2wd. Cant seem to get the front tires to spin. Might still be only pulling with the rear.

Dang this sucks. Got places to go and things to do on this nice sunday.

Sometimes you have to roll forward or back a bit with the truck for the 4 wheel to kick in – not too helpful if you’re already stuck!

    Good luck.
