Went pheasant shooting at a game farm today. My labs pads got all chewed up from the ice that was covering the snow. Any tips or recommendations for helping them heal up.

rest. Your dog will take care of them, my dogs always have. Just watch that they heal up in a couple days and don’t get infected. You can try neosporin but my dogs just lick it off.

Clean them up real good with water to get any dirt out and then clean it with a dog friendly anti-bacteria product (NOT PEROXIDE). Keep him/her from licking it and it should be fine in a day or two.

Just let the dog do its thing. Couple days it will be back in action.

Use Tuf-Foot, stuff works great. I live on a paved road and that a lot of times is where my dog gets exercise for the day. His feet use to get chewed up by the blacktop but now that I have started using that product they haven’t bothered him since.

Happened to me last year as well. Rest is about the only thing that will heal them. The problem I had was that every time she went outside for the next couple of days she would cut them open again and again. Solved that problem by putting some of my kids socks one her feet before she went out. Secure with duck tape and take them off when they come in. It’s a pain having to do it three times a day but they healed real fast after doing that.

May have to try that.Used “Musher’s Secret” with mixed results.Calvin’s(smooth coat collie)paws get torn-up easily only after a mile on pavement. The other collie we have has much tougher paw pads.
