Take plenty of jigs and plastics! Shore fishing is productive but not wthout some snags.
Downtown Red Wing has the Levee area where the train depot and grain silos are found. Great shore fishing all along that stretch. Baypoint Park also has a dock and rip-rap to cast that is wide open too. Colville Park has some channel shoreline along open water but you may have to negotiate some snow to get to the edge. This area has some heavy rip-rap much like Baypoint. Being further downstream may be an advantage too if fish are moving up from the lake area.
That lock wall at Alma is a small area but it sure puts out fish. And the comment about fishing from shore near the parking area of the landing just ahead of the power plant is dead on too. If Alma’s float is open when you plan to fish, that can be a great investment of your extra change to fish it for a day. Early like this the fish can come in shifts, many every day, and its nuts to be there when the bite happens. I’ve seen some serious tackle-wreckers come off the float over the years.
You can check the float’s website here: http://www.almafishingfloat.com/
to see when and if fishing is available from it. I know that bait was delivered to the owners last week one day but the word was that they were not opening for another week. Check the website out and call to be sure if you plan to drive there and plan to use it.
No bait has been delivered to either Bass camp or La Cupolis so those areas are not ready for any open water business, however a person may be able to slip a boat in.
