Is there a setup if your sinker is snagged but you know you have a fish on but it’s unable to take out the snagged sinker.. an easy break off sinker??

Breakaway Sinker??

I’m assuming you are running a 3 way? Just use a light test line on the sinker, something you can snap off.
March 15, 2013 at 2:56 pm #1152340You could take a look at the drop shot sinkers. I’ve never used them for walleye or cats, but they have saved me many many hooks/baits bass fishing. They just pinch the line real tight and with a good yank the line slips through.
I bet these bent ones would work good for trolling if you could find them in heavier sizes. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Voss_Drop_Shot_Weights_6pk/descpage-VWDSW.html

B Hoffies, the cat fisherman.
What…………..how am I to know he’s fishing cats? But, my reply won’t be dusted.
March 15, 2013 at 3:04 pm #1152344hmm..I’ll use a lighter line for the sinker and also give that Voss Drop Weight a try..it is 99% snagproof.
March 15, 2013 at 3:08 pm #1152348Can’t remeber who makes them but there is a walking sinker style weight that has and eyelet on a small piece of rubber tube and the weights are shapped like a bowling pin and just slip into the rubber tube piece.

You thinking of these I saw them at the sport show a few years back and still have his card. Hope there at the sport show again this year. wing it

That would be it! Looks pretty slick.
March 15, 2013 at 3:32 pm #1152359I don’t see how that would help any. The whole rig is streamlined so there really would be no way to snag up just the weight and pull it off.
I piece of airline tubing from the pet shop and some bank or pencil sinkers work just the same, I’ve done it in the past. I never change weights enough to make it worthwhile to use the system. Cut a piece about an inch long, drill a hole in one end for your line to slip through, stick your weight up the other end and you are done.
March 15, 2013 at 3:48 pm #1152370That wing it set up would be nice to have in my bag but with my record of snagging sinkers I’d go with the lightest line for my sinker.

This is rigging set up I use to use. Take a spinner bait arm and clip them so both ends are equal also cut the little u turn so both sides are straight. The spinner bait arm must be a closed one not the open ones. Then simply slide an egg sinker over it. This will do two things, one it will act like a small bottom bouncer and second when you get snagged just apply pressure the egg sinker will stay lodged and all you have to do is add another egg sinker and continue fishing.March 15, 2013 at 7:47 pm #1152459Quote:

You are looking for a Sinker Snap. You can find them at http://www.terminaltackleco.com This is what they look like. You can buy a standard sinker snap or a sinker snap with 3-Way Swivel.
I could spend a Thousand $ at terminaltackleco.com easy. They have stuff you didn’t even know you need.
jwellsyPosts: 1557March 15, 2013 at 8:25 pm #1152475I use regular 3-way swivels and a real light line. One place I go sometimes is below a dam with really fast water and rip rap. It takes a large weight to cast up to a good spot and have it hold there, so we rig breakaway sinkers with the intention of breaking it off on a strike to fight the fish not the sinker and rip rap.
March 15, 2013 at 10:08 pm #1152501When I was a kid we could not afford to buy sinkers so we would find rocks and tie them onto the line cheap and effective. It is a trick finding the right size rock and shape then learning to tie it on.
April 15, 2013 at 12:47 am #1162598So I took the advice and tied a lighter line for sinker to my swivel and pre-tied a bunch to have it ready when spring arrives.
