HDS 7 or HDS 5 on bow?

Just bought a HDS 5 to add to my HDS 7 but not sure which one I should put on the bow? Thinking it should be my 7 due to the fact I will be spending a majority of my time up there and it will be farther away. Anyone have any experiences that can steer me in the right direction?

I agree with putting the 7 at the bow unless you’re installing StuctureScan.

Not sure whether the gps is internal or external but couldn’t you set things up so you could have them both at the console and put either at the bow when you are up there? Is the power cord the same for both units? I would put them on RAM mounts or some other mount of your choice that will allow this freedom. It is nice to have them both available at the console if you are sitting there. I may be way off on what you are trying to accomplish but just thought id throw it out there

I have the 7 in back (tiller) and the 5 in the bow. I’m in the bow primarily for vertical jigging and I can zoom the GPS map in close enough to see where I’m at,and I’m not movinv fast enough to need it zoomed out to see where I’m going.

Bigger screen at back because I’m navigating from there. I don’t want to “decipher” anything that may be too hard to easily see,I want to know, now….I troll from there,I run at WOT in some hairy areas. I’m considering buying a used 7 to add to the one already there – one for GPS/lakemaster,the other one for sonar.

All the plugs are the same so as long as you use the same mounting hardware (I’d suggest a 1.5″ RAM) you can swap them back and forth at will.

But to answer your original question I’d say put the bigger one where you’ll be spending most of your fishing time.

To all the guys that just jumped in and said “buy a big one” – you should read the thread before responding.

Ya. Went with the ram mounting system. 1.5″ ball. I was thinking the same thing. Now I can put them wherever I want when I want.
