Was wondering what people thought about maxum vs I pilot for the river. Seems like it would be nice to fish with the family and be able to see everyone from the back of the boat, but on a day with some wind may make fishing two rods difficult with no foot petal. Anybody have any experience using both on the ole miss.

Maxum vs I pilot for Mississippi River??

If you go with a Terrova you can still use a foot pedal, it’s just not cable driven so the response time may not be as sudden as using a cable drive.
March 11, 2013 at 1:27 pm #1150729I went through the same thought process and ended up going with the Terrova with the Ipilot. We fish the river and my main concern was vertical jigging with two rods. The Terrova can use the foot pedal and the remote at the same time. The response time is not as fast with the foot pedal as my old Maxxuum but it is pretty close. My boy has been testing it and he is thoroughly pleased with the Terrova with the Ipilot. We took off a good Maxxuum to go with the Terrova and so far it has been a great move. Maybe the boy will see this and put in his 2 cents worth. We got ours from Jolly Ann and service and price were stellar as usual

X2, The terrova with I-pilot is the way to go.
March 11, 2013 at 2:13 pm #1150747The functions of the ipilot are very handy for all types of fishing. There are a lot of guys that will not give up their cable steer motors for nothing (mainly bass guys). I used to run a cable steer and there are definately days I wish I had it on my boat but, for me the benefits of the iPilot are just too much to ever go back.
There is now an option for those that want the benefits of both a cable drive and the iPilot….. Minn Kota will soon be releasing a new Universal Quick Release Mount (MKA-47 Quick Release Bracket). This will allow you to easily switch back and forth from a electric steer model to a cable drive model.
You can read more about it HERE.
March 11, 2013 at 2:20 pm #1150750Each have their pros and cons, but the upside of the Ipilot outweighs anything that is lost by not having a cable drive. That is my 2 cents.
March 11, 2013 at 2:47 pm #1150765Thanks for your help guys. It might take some time for me to get used to power drive instead of cable. I tend to fish wingdams very aggressively and it is nice to have quick response time and be able to pop the motor out of the water fast and set it back down. This is a great place for info though, so I cancled the maxxuma and ordered the terrova I pilot. Im sure that learning how to use it will be half the fun. I tend to fish with kids in the boat, so it will be nice not to have to turn my back on them.

I am one that went kicking and screaming to not give up my cable drive after using cable for better then 30 years. I am happy now that I made the change specially on the river. Using the footpedal is not as precise as cable for minor adjustments, the power drive seems to move a little farther then I want, what helps is using Autopilot in conjunction with the pedal. Spot lock is one thing I could never give up now.
I do wish the speed control on the footpedal was a little stiffer with winter boots on it is way to tough to make minor adjustments.
March 11, 2013 at 6:38 pm #1150899I think the pros and cons have been covered here. If you haven’t purchased yet check with Ben at Jolly Ann Marine. Ben has free shipping and may have some current promos that would help you out.
March 12, 2013 at 5:36 pm #1151262Is the terrova that much better than the V2, like when using spotlock?

The Terrova lets you use the foot pedal in conjunction with IPilot. With V2 IPilot eliminates the use of the footpedal, if you ever go Hbird then that opens up IPilot Link.
