This unit(1995 Toro 2000e) has been a very good snow thrower… very reliable…

When the snow came the beginning of the week I pulled out out of the shed.. fired it up… it ran for about 3 seconds and then quit… would not re start…

Gas is full… put in a new plug…still no start..

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated !!!

The first thing to check is does it have spark. If it does then it would most likely be a fuel issue.

Pulled the plug.. put the new one in… while out.. i turned it over and did not see a spark in the gap of the spark plug…

does it have to arc against the block ?

The metal on the plug needs to be grounded to engine to get a spark to jump the gap. If you are having trouble put your pinky in the plug boot and pul the engine over. You will get a shock but you WILL know if the engine is sparking.

You could always call Josh and tell him you’re on a hot bite, hurry and get over to your house. When he gets there have a (1) shovel sitting there and tell him you can’t go until everything is shoveled

Do you have a manual for that rig? My guess would be the kill switch might be stuck, coil shot or ignition switch (if applicable)

If no spark, my guess would be the Magneto / coil. If you provide the model and S/N I can lookup the part # for you. If you give me your Zip code I can also locate a dealer in your area.

Called down to the small engine Doctor… He said the unit is a 1996 and that the coil will be $215…
    yikes !!!

Suzuki engine… it has been a GREAT motor.. but I think that’s a tad much to dump into this blower

Unplug the key switch and check for spark again to rule out the switch before replacing the ignition module. Often times the switch is the issue.

Did you check the kill switch? Do NOT replace expensive parts before checking this.

My guess is water/ice got into switch. Very rare for a mag to fail on a blower, they don’t get the use that other engines get.

The most common thing that I have found on small 2 strokes is that the wire for the kill switch where it comes out of the coil is grounding out. The insulation on the wire gets brittle and falls off causing it to ground out. Easy fix is to find where the issue is and cut the wire off flush and put a little liquid electrical tape over the spot. You will no longer have a kill switch but I just hit the choke to turn mine off. Simple fix that’s easy to do and doesn’t cost anything.
