I have amber and I am pretty happy with mine. Broke the frame once and they replaced it for a nominal fee.

In my opinion, I would go with glass lenses over polycarbonate. Yes, a little heavier but my glass lenses show no wear/scratches after 5 yrs.

I believe that all the mirrored lens are over a amber base lens. I’ve had the blue and green 580 lens and they are both great. For sight fishing in bright light I think the green lens is just a little better. I’ve had a sales rep. Tell me the silver mirror is the best for sight fishing. I was not able to find a pair in the style I liked ( fathom ) in that color to try. Like others said I’d go with the 580 glass lens. 5 and 3 years on mine and they both still look like new.

I have the amber and the green mirror, and had a pair of the blue mirror until an unfortunate meeting with a lawn mower. I like the amber lenses on cloudy days, but like all three lenses. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them.

I have the 580 glass in amber in the swordfish frame. I would say, like some others, that the glass lens is better for durability. I’ve tried all colors and still think the amber is the best all around for everyday use as well as fishing. Glass is a bit heavier, but my nose knows no difference…. I think the frame design is pretty important too. I have a larger melon than say my wife, I prefer the frames that wrap and seal the light coming in from my temples, one con to this style is fog up on some days.

You’ve got three choices to make here – lens material, lens color and lens finish. Lens material is glass vs plastic. I’ve used both and have to say that glass is by far the way to go. It is heavier, noticeably with some frames, but the vision quality and durability is unmatched vs plastic. Last summer I dropped my shades lens down on a 1 yr old concrete sidewalk. Instead of coming up with stratches on my lenses, I had concrete dust.

The other two choices, lens color and finish, are personal preference. For lens color, you’re picking between a grey lens or some type of brown, either amber or copper. Grey is used for bright conditions where a brown lens is an all around performer and works better on cloudy/overcast days. I prefer an amber base, feel like grey base mutes colors too much for me.

The lens finish, mirrored or plain, is last. The mirrored finish helps cut glare in all light conditions.

The blue mirror uses a grey base where green or silver mirror uses an amber base. I’m a fan of mirrored shades and have green mirrors just cause I got a good deal on them.

Here’s the Costa site with all their lens colors. Hope this helps, good luck.
