The Wild put in a good effort, but beating the hawks requires a great effort, Minnesota might be the land of 10,000 lakes but the chicago blackhawks are the BEST team in the NHL.20-0-3 record, 10 wins in a row, 29 games without a regulation loss. CANT argue with that. My hats off to the wild, they will be there one day, but not today By the way Sutter finally got his first goal, got paid lots of $$$$$$$ for that one :

They are a very good team cant argue that. The wild however were the first team to beat them this season. It was in a shootout, but to me a loss is a loss. They better just hope they stay healthy threwout the season or it could be a first round and done. I think the wild can compete with them any night. They werent on top of there game last night. But good teams show up ever night like the hawks did. It was a good game to watch.

Look’s like that is a coaching problem to me!!
And yes it was a good game.March 6, 2013 at 12:13 pm #1148953Quote:

They scored 4 goals including the game winner against Backstrom-the 1st string goalie. If Backstrom would have played better, this could have been a different game.
March 6, 2013 at 1:26 pm #1148981The Hawks are the class of the NHL right now. Play-offs are still a ways away. There was zero chance the Wild were beating the Blackhawks at home. Every time the Wild scored the Blackhawks answered.
They are playing well right now.

Backstrom was out of position alot.
March 6, 2013 at 4:45 pm #1149100Couple of quotes after the game I got off Twitter.
Yeo:”We were watching them, we were on our heels, we were losing battles, losing races and we weren’t physical. Just not a good recipe.”
Mike Yeo: “We played a very poor game. I’m more curious to see how we come out the next game.”
Heatley said the “bench was dead,” that the #mnwild was “moping” and pouting and once that stopped, they rebound
Parise said the #mnwild should take notes the way #Blackhawks out worked the wild and beat them to pucks in their own end
I don’t know how anybody could go up against a team chasing history and not be ready to go. But they were not ready. Despite that they stayed in the game, which is a good sign. Had the Wild won, they’d be saying, “We didn’t deserve to win, but good teams find ways to win and make their own luck”.
The fans who follow the Wild who were complaining about the dump and chase got a lesson on what a good dump/chase and pursuit can do. The Hawks have it perfected.
There are no Sutters playing for the Wild.
March 6, 2013 at 6:14 pm #1149145It looked for a while like the Wild’s anemic goal production was trending upward and I guess getting 3 against Chicago is something.
With that said, agree with the other poster who said what the heck is the problem if you can’t get it in gear for a game against the Blackhawks? C’mon guys. I know this short season is not optimal, but everyone in the league is dealing with that, so, errrr, freaking deal with it!
I know a lot is being made of the pros/cons to a dump and chase game. With that said, look at the teams that do it well and what they do with it. No system is worth a crapping thing if you execute it poorly.
I totally get that the fans love to see a player bring it in to the zone, curl it around, deke a guy or 3 and get off a shot or quality pass. The reality, however, is that this isn’t high school or college hockey.
In the NHL skating it deep into the zone is about as hard to do consistently as cranking one up from the blue line and scoring. Yeah, it can happen, whatever, but the % odds are very low. The whole point of dump/chase is that it gets you beyond step 1, which is getting the puck into the zone, on-side, and gets your offense in without turning it over. Obviously, it only works if you can complete step 2, which is to chase it down low and recover the puck to start working it. The good dump and chase teams don’t seem to have a problem with step 2, so again the system only works when you execute.

March 6, 2013 at 7:26 pm #1149167Cullen and Zucker actually penetrated the zone successfully last night. If they give it to you, you take it.
The Wild definitely don’t look like the Wild who had 1 line scoring and not very often. They have turned a corner. Vancouver is struggling, so you never know. If we can pick it up and win the division, we won’t have to try and compete with the 3-4 teams vying for the last 2 playoff spots.
