Old Rapala?

Found this floating down the river last fall. I don’t know if its old or not but it sure does look like it. It looks hand made, the bottom looks like it was filled with a white putty after assembly. Says “rapala” on the bill and then no other markings other than a hand engraved “1-7” on the belly. The hooks surely are not old, look like new VMCs.

Is it old? Should I keep it or just throw it in the stick bait box and fish it?

    Mail it to me –

    I lost it last fall.

It is not worth anything – I just want the hooks back

Looks exactly like this one here. It’s a floating jointed rap

I believe that should read J-7 which meant “jointed and a #7

    Keep it and use it

Sounds good. Never fished jointed before, always used orig floaters on the 3-ways. I’ll toss it in the boat.

So whats you guy’s favorite way to fish them? The more I look at this little fella the more I like it. Might make it a goal to catch a wally on him this year.

It’s like anything else. Some days they might want this, some days they might want that. The jointed rap makes more noise and has a big side-to-side wiggle to it and some times they might like this better. I’ve had a couple of these in my box for years and they’ve caught me a lot of fish. I’ve had good luck still fishing them. Honestly…I use a three way swivel and enough weight to hold bottom, and toss the rig into holes or onto structure like the tip of a wingdam. Let the current do the work! Every once in a while you can lift it up and set it back farther.
