The time is getting near and crankbaits are on sale. I’m taking a little time this morning to do an inventory on my Flicker Shads before I head to Bass Pro for a little shopping. I had the In-Depth Outdoors – Rainy River episode rolling on the computer and now this goofy BK guy interviewing the Freeze Your Butt tournament guys.

I wish I was there to fish that tournament. Maybe next year. Good luck to all fishing, stay safe and warm.

A very helpful hint for those of us with a lot of money invested in our crankbaits is to take photos of each tackle tray. I do this every year for insurance purposes. Each of my tackle trays gets photographed individually and I use a dedicated camera SD card for these types of photos. After the pictures are updated for the year, the SD card goes in the fireproof safe.

It takes a little bit of time, but in the event of a fire, theft, tornado, or other loss of your gear you have a leg to stand on with the Ins. company. I could picture myself getting funny looks when I tell them I have $10,000 in fishing tackle. I also do this with all my rod and reel combos while I clean them up and put new line on each year.

Glad you mentioned that. I need to get into my plastics and do some sorting. I have everything stuffed into one big plastic box and it’s time to start separating into categorys. Great project for this afternoon- -right after I get home from walking the pup jerr

edit:My insurance gal gave me some funny looks when I first brought in my SD card with the total boat inventory on it. Since then she reminds me annually to update and send her a copy. Says she asks all her fishing folks to do that-

Great idea. Do you have a separate rider for fishing gear? Or would it be covered under homeowners?

You would have to have a higher sublimit to deal with $2000 of more tackle – with most insurance companies.

I know I checked with my Ins. agents on this a few years back. I’m definately going to make a couple calls again today to make sure I have sufficient coverage. I think I have the max personal effects coverage on my boat policy. Since I have so much invested in rods, reels and tackle I may have to shop for a different policy if I can’t get the coverage I need.

I’ll report back with the results from my phone calls today. I found out the hard way a few months ago that my ceverage on my boat trailer was not enough to cover a full replacement. I totaled the trailer and had to cough up a little extra for a replacement. Then I decided to go with a tandem axel trailer and it cost me even more. I now need $5000 coverage on the trailer and currently only have $3000. I hope the premium don’t go up too much.

Not sure who you have your insurance through Ben, but if I remember correctly, I have 20k or 30k in additional coverage on gear. I have my insurance through Justin Schneider. I would give Justin a call if your current policy isn’t cutting it for you. Once you start adding up the replacement cost on stuff, it doesn’t take long to get way over what you would think you have in dollar value.

Great idea Ben just dont let your wife find the SD card with all your gear. I think my wife still thinks I only have 1 fishing rod with a couple plain hooks!
