Anyone ever had to get cigarette smoke out of a living space?

How do you best do it? What works?

Strip the room down to nothing. Then paint KILLZ over everything. Tear out carpet and KILLZ the subfloor.

An Ozone generator should do it for ya, or would be worth a shot anyway. Alot of rental stores carry them.

I was going to say to gut the place down to the studs and subfloor but this MIGHT do the trick. Depends on how long the previous resident smoked in there, though. Good luck.

My girlfriends brother in law works for a proffesioal restoration service that gets smoke odor out of burnt buildings. I would look in the yellow pages and see what they would reccomend. Some of the chemicals are only available to licensed proffesionals. All depends on how much you hate the smell.

Get rid of all fabrics- carpet furniture, drapes, etc. Ozone machine for weekend and it should be good to Killz and paint. After you have the ozone machine ruinning stay out of the house. When you go back in shut the machine off and ventilate the house for an hour before going back in to work in it. I have heard ozone machine will even kill the mice in the house.

Hell! by the ads on TV all you need is a blindfold and a can of Febreze. It makes it smell like fresh cloths or a pine forest.

Yep. And then remove all the trim and anything else that is pourous and can absorb the stench.

And after all that, you’ll still have about a 90% chance that you’ll still smell the smoke. Maybe only after the room has been closed up for a while, but you’ll still smell it sometimes. That smoke even gets into the insulation in the attic and between the walls.

Take up smoking–it’s amazing how little you can smell afterwards.

Look into the Ozone generator’s….they actually work!! I smoked in our townhome and had a problem when it came time to sell it. My realtor told me to rent one of these machines and after a couple of “application’s”, no one complained about the smoke smell again!!!

Contact one of those companies that comes in to clean up after a fire.

Killz works amazing to cover up both smells and stains. Be sure to cover whatever you want to keep. It is almost impossible to get drops off of anything you want to keep.

If you use Kilz make sure to use the shellac based version. The latex type will probably not work and/or need several applications.
