Name him Jacob, then you can call him Jack if you want to…

I say go with a name that is decided between mom and dad, then you always can give him the nickname Jack.

Colton Hammer has a nice ring to it.

I would stick to something traditional and strong…so many people these days are naming their kids all kinds of crazy stuff that they will need to live with through the schools years and their adult lives.

I met a game warden years back and his name was Mike Hammer, I would guess Michael was the given name but Mike Hammer flows nice. There used to be a TV show Mike Hammer but I doubt many people remember it, it’s been off the air for 15+ years I believe.

The main thing my wife and I considered when naming our son is….will this name look/sound good and carry respect on an office door or an announcers voice(future hockey star…we hope LOL). We went with Patrick John, we call him PJ which is great for a kid and when he gets older he can go by Pat, Patrick or PJ whichever he prefers and makes the most sense for his career choice.

Good luck….just try to avoid a name that paints a target on him for kids to pick on, kids are mean as it is…no point in making it easy for them.

How about Johnathan. It can be many names in one. You’ve got Johnathan for a intellectual name, John for a professional name, Johnny for a kid or mobster, and Jack again for a kid or otherwise tough guy.

Here’s how the nick name came about if anyone is interested.

    John-Jack

One of the most famous bearers of this name, John F. Kennedy, was known to friends and family as “Jack.” But I wonder if he knew how much history that name had? John is a name with history stretching back far into Biblical times. However, during medieval times, the name John was altered slightly in the Germanic tongues to Jankin or Jackin. Out of that, we get the nickname Jack.

Have to agree with the others who said if you like Jack, make it a nickname.

It’s only fairly recently that Jack became common as a real first name on its own. It’s far more common for it to be a nickname for John and sometimes Jacob.

With the lack of discipline these days in most schools, you don’t want to set him up that old easy bully target, the funny name. Jack Hammer will become Jack0ff Hummer or Jack[censored] Hammer, you can count on the little d!cks having plenty of fun with the easy joke.

Why do I get the feeling many people were bullied when younger on here. So much worrying about childhood baffles me, but everyone’s comments I do appreciate very much thanks again and have helped me in a decision that I will make eventually.

regardless of last name, I think Jack is currently way too popular for boys name.

Thinking about my sons baseball last year (he’s 6). Every team we played against had a least 1 Jack/Jackson on the team…and many had more than one. One team had 4.

But, this is just a random opinion and obviously you are free to name your kid whatever you choose!!
