A Big Thank You to Riverweed

One of the great people on IDO Curt (Riverweed) had posted a while back about having a power wheelchair and was looking to donate it.

I have a friend that has had Diabetes since he was very young, because of this he has lost his big toe and Daddy toe on one foot and is probably going to loose the Big toe on the other foot. Jim my friend does not have a lot of money and does not own a vehical so he has to take public transportation, usually a cab because he has difficulty making it to a bus stop.

I talked to Curt about Jim and he agreed to donate the Wheelchair to Jim. He even was able to drop it off in Eau Claire on his way through to save me a trip to the cities to pick it up. What a guy, Curt I cannot say thank you enough!

I wanted to keep it a secret until we delivered the chair to Jim but my GF cannot keep a secret and had to call. Jim was literally crying on the phone, this will give him freedom that he has not had in a long time. My GF and I will be buying new batteries since the chair had set idle for some time and the batteries are shot.

Would anyone on here know of a place that they could be purchased at a discount? The cheapest place that I have found is Batteries plus, it takes two and they are close to $120 each once you add taxes.

Again Curt Thank you so much, I will post a picture of Jim in his new chair as soon as we get it down to him, I’m sure he will have a big smile and probably a few tears of joy!!!

I read that story and said to myself, “I probably have some money to throw towards some new batteries”. I’m not saying I have 120 bucks but I know I have $5 or $10 to help this guy get his mobility back! Anybody else want to get on board? We could get some money together or just mail it individually.
If enough join in, “ICENUTZ” can let us know where to send it. I’m in for $10.00.

Send me the details on what battery it takes and I will see what I can do. I have a few contacts that may be able to help.

Wow you guys and gals on here are absolutely amazing, I’m at a loss for words, tough typing when your eyes are getting watery.

You have no idea what his means to not only Jim but to me and my GF, she introduced me to Jim. I have been going through a tough stretch the last 6 months. Dad has Lung Cancer and his days are numbered, it metastasized onto his ribs before they found it so it’s not operable. He went through Radiation and is still on Chemo every 3 weeks. The Dr. was very impressed with his strength for being 82. They have shrunk the tumor and he has finally stopped loosing weight, he went from 160 to under 125 in a few months. Just before dad was diagnosed mom had a lump removed from her breast, they caught it early so they decided that at 82 also there was no sense to make her go though any further treatment since they did not find any other cancer.

Sorry for the long rant, but when I saw Curt’s post I thought this was a chance to do something good and hopefully some good Karma would come out of it.

I just don’t know what to say, but thank you, thank you, thank you! You can send any donation that would would like, anything will help, to my paypal. Please send it as a gift to avoid any paypal fees. I will post the receipt for the batteries and a picture of Jim on the chair, so any of the skeptics are satisfied.

I will not be able to make the trip to Illinois to deliver the chair for a while.

My paypal is [email protected] If you want to mail something my address is:

311Hemi PM’ed me and he can get a discount at Batteries+, after he looked into the options the price I was quoted was for a lesser 31AH battery not the 55AH battery that is recommended. He can get them for $133 plus tax, down from the normal $150 plus tax. It’s probably would not be worth it for me to drive 2 hours one way to save the $34.

Thanks 311Hemi, maybe someone closer will be able to help. Thanks to all of you that have donated to help out with this, it really is appreciated more than I can say.

    Np.

Just to clarify, the 31ah model# you sent me was around $90 and the 55ah that was in your original pm was $132.

Sounds like you found a better deal either way and no driving to boot!

Thanks for the kind words Charlie.
When I turned in on one of the last turns going east going home last night there was a gorgeous orange moon just above the horizon overlooking the St.croix river at the time it made a great ending of a long work day. Later I read this, two great endings in a day.

Thank you for finding a good home for the chair I am most grateful for contacting me, it does mean a lot to me to team up together and help your friend out.

Your doing the major leg work with finding batteries and also delivering it to Jim. Things are falling into place like its meant to be for Jim. From contacting me then me having to go through Eau Claire for job in Black Riverfalls to fellow IDO’s helping out.

I would have said something last night but I didn’t know what to say. Helping each other out is what its about as you and rest of us know.

    Curt,

Again I have to say thank you from myself and Jim. Your small gift of gratitude was sent out in the mail yesterday, it isn’t much but hopefully every time you use it, it will bring back memories.

Jim did ask for your address, I believe he will be sending you a letter thanking you. As I said if there is ever anything I can do for you please ask, maybe we can get together this summer and wet a line and enjoy a few beverages of choice? I certainly owe you a few.

Thank you to everyone that has pitched in and sent money for the batteries.
