Watching it again I’m lucky this old dog didn’t have a heart attack… lol Every once in awhile the stars align and something kinda special happens. This was one of those days.

So James, 2 weeks in a row you managed to cover 2 of my 3 favorite fishing trips. What are the odds you are going to be sturgeon fishing next week?

Oh btw, Rainy River, Lake Superior trolling and sturgeon fishing would probably never be on my itinerary if it wasn’t for IDO.

We won’t be doing a sturgeon show next week but we will have a Pool 4 open water show filmed a couple days ago that is going to feature some very, very cool underwater footage. No giant fish in this one but should be a good show and very helpful to those planning to hit the big river in the coming weeks.

We will be doing a “same week” sturgeon show as soon as we can get a boat on Rainy though.

That sounds great too. P4 has been on my bucket list as well. I’ll be itching to get the boat wet after my trip to LOTW this upcoming weekend.

I look forward to the sturgeon show as well. There’s a good chance I could be up there at the same time. Hope to see you guys there!

If I remember correctly you said you were in Michigan waters, were you off the coast of Michigan, or out by Isle Royale? If that is ok to ask.

We were up the north shore out of Grand Portage. This coming summer I think the plan is to go out to Stennard Rock which will have us launching off the Michigan coast. Either way in either location the fishing can be amazing…

Wow, unreal!…Never seen that many huge lakers at one time come out of Lk.Superior.
James…What size leader do you recommend off the leadcore for these fish?…
Great show, and had nice weather to boot.

A 30′ leader of 20# flouro seemed to be just about perfect.

The show was awesome! Those lakers are so cool, they seem like the “old souls” of the trout family… Or the members of the trout family that are susceptible to binge eating disorders…

Approximately how old does a 40″ Laker figure to be in Lake Superior?

    James,

Every week you put out one heck of a show! For years I have recorded fishing shows and found them to be mildly informative, and highly relaxing. If I wanted to take a Saturday afternoon nap, I’d watch whatever I had taped that week and in 15 minutes I’d be sound asleep. I am not saying that to knock those shows. I honestly enjoyed them.

I’ve tried the same thing with IDO, and simply cannot do it. Every episode has me sitting up and paying close attention to the show. Your show has become the one that I cannot miss. Actually without peer.

Thanks for putting out such a fine product!

I would guess the majority of these fish we caught were 20 to 25 plus years old. Thus, why it is so important to release them. We had ONE fish die on us afetr taking 45 minutes to try to release her. She littleraly killed herself in the fight. All others went back swimming which is one heck of a good feeling.

Thanks Grant, It’s way cool when you can find and fool a 25 year old fish! Thanks for putting them back too!

James–I’ve been out to Stannard Rock a couple of times, you’ll love it. Well, unless the lake starts to kick up…it’s a fairly long ride to and from. ;-)

    Jurrassic Lake Trout!

Hopefully my hotspot will load this video tonight. I might recognize some of those Jurassic trout from my childhood.

Watched this episode up in Duluth. Stayed on Lake Superior. All I could do was look out the window and dream. The Bay is ice locked. Looked like a blast. Great job Guys.

First, the show is/was a success! Heard the term redfin at least once; didn’t know that they got that big. Most of those we’ve cought were under 8 lbs. Those under 5# (which we keep for the “pan”) always have great red color, only slightly less red than any salmon.

Still puzzled by the reference re Michigan and your reply “out of Grand Portage”…so you would have to be off of Isle Royale?? The background does look like the SE shore of IR.

Were most of your spoons set to run the same depths? If not, do you think (re green spoon) it was the color or the depth it ran?

Have mostly fished the NE third of the island by jigging or trolling with down riggers and dipseys; too much structure changes there (reefs) to run six lead core lines; tho I may have to rethink that. A five pound laker hitting a jig and gulp on walleye gear also is a blast!

Keep up the good work…and I mean work; I doubt most of us realize the effort and frustrations involved for the twenty minutes we get to see.
