Looking to buy a zero-turn mower this spring. Anyone got any input into brand/model that they have experience with. I mow 4-5 acres every week….sometimes twice in spring. I have a New Holland TC29D with a 72″ belly mower now but looking to get rid of that.

I’ve got a John Deere 960 ZTrak that is a beast. It mows 5 farm places and can do it in a hurry. Also does a very nice job. This is our third Z Trak and have been very happy with them.

I forgot the best part of this mower. My wife loves to run it.

I would look at Scag. They are great for what your looking for with longer grass. A Deere would be my second choice. Exmark will lay nice stripes if your doing it as a business, but they are pricey.

For sure a John Deere Z900 series! They have been redesigned for 2013 and are EXTREMELY nice. Send me a message if you would like more info!

(I may be biased to Deere)

With that much to mow I would look for the commercial mowers versus home owner. The blade speed is three times faster then the home owner type which translate into less time mowing.

When we stepped up from a Symplicity ZTR to a Great Dane commercial ZTR our mowing time went from just shy of 4 hours to a hair less then an hour. This thing will cut grass as fast as you can stand to drive it. In very smooth parts it will mow at 14MPH.

Yes, go commercial mower. Get what you can afford. Also look at whether or not you can get parts fast. I’ve had green, red, brown and yellow mowers and they all do the job. But a breakdown can take some parts time on some mowers. Try any mower out before you buy. Most dealers will let you test one.

We use grasshoppers. Makes mowing around all the trees on the acreage easy.
