Does Gander even carry fishing equipment anymore? Every piece of advertisement it’s either for guns or for outdoor clothing, the, makes me wonder if they’re even in the fish market anymore.
February 18, 2013 at 11:41 pm #1143224I wish them the best, but they are looking at hard times ahead with Caboolas(sic) moving in. The selection is much better there and their customer service is the best of any outdoor store I have ever been to. If you need to return or exchange something they don’t make you feel like a criminal like Gander or Joe’s.

Or misprints that they have no intention of honoring. Sorry, just couldn’t resist.

tenchiPosts: 57February 19, 2013 at 2:43 am #1143340I don’t have much to say about gander mountain but man stay away from Joe. Years ago I bought two new st Croix rod from Joe sporting good on a Friday night. Over the weekend I change my mind and wanted another rod instead. So I brought it back for a return. The customer service called out one of the manager and he said I cant return the rods because it had too many scratches on the rod. I don’t recall buying any high end rod that still wrapped up in bubble wrap with no scratch. Every rod that is up on the rack would of had hundreds of people testing bending and So on with it. Anyways so I couldn’t return the rods so I came back and gave it away. Now I’m a cabelas member. Love their customer service and now they even got a online customer chat line. If I’m going to drop a lot of money on anything its got to be cabelas

February 19, 2013 at 1:31 pm #1143411I was afraid to find out and wreck the fantasy. I quickly looked then ran. Only went there to return something.

My dear sweet wife bought me a fancy tipup. I think it had a line counter on it? I dont use tipups much and have plenty of Beaverdams for when I do so back it went.
desperadoPosts: 3010February 19, 2013 at 4:16 pm #1143492oooookaaaaay
I didn’t really mean “why” you were returning something
more “how” did the experience go when returning something at that store
(but you probably already knew that)February 19, 2013 at 4:17 pm #1143493want to feel better abot looking for fishing tackle at Gander check out a [censored] Sports before going.
desperadoPosts: 3010February 19, 2013 at 4:22 pm #1143495alright, It’s time for me to post something POSITIVE here
I am a fan (financial supporter) of Joe’s in St Paul, Blue Ribbon in Oakdale, Fred’s Bait in Deer River, Dr Bait in Kelliher, and Prince Bait in Milaca
Plenty of other good choices around here too; Thorne’s, Vado’s, Capra’s. I like them just as well, only don’t get to them as often.
February 19, 2013 at 4:55 pm #1143517My post was positive. It just naturally went the other direction…..

Come to St Cloud store, they are very knowledgeable and helpful… Unfortunately it sounds like alot of complaints revolve around the Woodbury store and the terrible employees/customers there… Collectively, they are attempting to take the whole company down

From my experience; I’d say St Cloud is the exception to the rule, not Woodbury.
The last few times I was in the Forest Lake store, it was no better than Woodbury; and Forest Lake is SUPPOSED to be their flagship store.
I suspect you hear the most about Woodbury on this board because that’s the store closest to many of the IDO regular posters.
I happen to live about half way between Woodbury and Forest Lake, so get about equal exposure to the two.February 20, 2013 at 7:46 am #1143793I went to return a RAM mount at Gander Mountain in Woodbury, new in the package, never opened or used. I had lost the receipt but did in fact buy it at a Gander (lakeville store). The item is still a current item sold at Gander but without a receipt I was unable to exchange the item for store credit. Only a $30 dollar purchase, so not the end of the world, but if that was at Cabela’s, they ALWAYS give the customer the benefit of the doubt. For that reason alone I will make all my large purchases there. I have many friends with similar experiences at Cabelas.
