Brad, do you know the reasoning behind this?

Landowners are tired of paying taxes and mortgages on once productive that now produces nothing…only to be used by anyone.

They gotta take it out of someone!

This also does not apply to meandered lakes…such as Bitter.

That is not how I read the bill but if so I will not take any chances. A lawyer in Mankato is $2,000 up front and $200 an hour plus to have meeting face to face the charge 2 hours prep. Not worth it

I have not read, seen or heard of this bill, but I highly doubt it will affect fishing on the lakes listed. They have public ramps. My guess is, the intent of the bill would be to eliminate access off roads on too private land, as there have been issues with this before.

This bill, if passed, will have a huge economic impact on SD. Not only will 100’s of lakes become private, they will also prevent hunters from accessing many, many areas in the state. I don’t know how big of business recreational snowmobiling is, but it will also be greatly affected.

I can see the land owners issues, but I gotta believe there is a happy medium. Sad state of affairs.

If I understand the language, areas of lakes will be private. I don’t know how they will ever enforce this. I could also be misundertanding the language. Of course, interpretation of laws is always up to the the judge.

I would encourage everyone who hunts or fishing in SD to write the Governor and ask him to make sure this never becomes law.

Think Red Lake, lots of areas off limits on all those amazing fisheries.

    Contact Governor
