I was going through my tackle boxes today and my crankbaits are a mess! I have a lot of crankbaits and I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a good system for storing them….

For the last 3 years I was running a BnB box and it became over crowded. Last season I switched to Plano boxes for each size and MFG of lure.
The planos make things easy to find, take up more space and I have to bring more when jumping in with others. Pros and cons.
I think I am going to put all shads in the BnB and all sticks in Planos and try that.

I wrap the hooks with a rubber band that way they can sit in the same tray and don’t get tangled. I have 40 flicker shads in the same bin and no issues.

Hook bonnets work wonders for storage in plano boxes. Cabelas sells them.

    Check out Crank Caddys! http://crankcaddy.com/index1.html
Spendy yes, but worth every penny in my opinion. Mine get stood on end in my soft side tackle box and remain tangle free. Buy a medium and give it a shot. If you like it you can always order more!

Oh and if you live near the cities the sportsmens show is coming up and they usually run a special on them at the show!

Ahh come on- that is half the fun with freezing cold fingers and bouncing waves and pitch black darkness and 50 year old eyes that don’t see like the used to – aah on second thought maybe hook bonnets are a good idea.

Get some of the little small rubber bands at walmart. Put it around both hooks so it pulls them together on the belly of the crank then toss them in 3700 series planos. They won’t get tangled, and if they do its like taking two single hooks apart.. super easy and quick.

I use plastic coated wire twist ties like the ones that come on a loaf of bread to wrap the hooks together. They work great and don’t dry out and break like rubber bands will, and don’t trap water and rust your trebles like hook bonnets can.

Here’s a pic of a #13 Rapala that I wrapped. It only takes a couple seconds to do, and I can carry 50 stickbaits in a Plano 3700 with NO tangles.

Rubber bands work good, I think a guy on the linders show had his cranks like that. You just have to not be too lazy to put them back on. Mine dont get tangled at all.

Rubber bands is the cheap way to go and it works well.

I have the Special Mate and yes they are nice but do not hold near enough crankbaits and take up a lot of space in the boat. I went with rubber bands Plano boxes, and now am switching over to the wire ties. The rubber bands do work good but get bad with age.

You can buy 1000 Plastic Twist Ties with shipping on Amazon for about $11. That should keep you untangled to YEARS to come!
